Unhappy Help (Symtoms of running on one rotor).

My car started running like it was running on one rotor, it was very sluggish at the rpm's and I had trouble starting it like if it was flooded. It just happened all of the sudden. I hadn't changed anything in the car so I have no idea what is wrong. The only think I can think of is the oil fuel additive might have something to do with it, or bad gas, cloged fuel filter, bad coil, bad sparkplugs, maybe even bad compression. Unfortunately I haven't had the time to check all these things so I will have to systematically go through all these things. What I was wondering if any you have run into something like this and if you have any suggestions on what to look for.

Thanks

Before you worry too much about a blown motor, check your MAP sensor connection. It's a small black box located on the firewall on the driver side. It should have an electrical harness connected to it and 1 vacuum hose. That hose will go down to a small check valve. Make sure the hose has not slipped off of the sensor or valve.

The car will run very horribly if that hose has come off. Loping idle, vibration, smoke, smell of unburnt fuel, sluggish at low throttle, may bog and die...

help

The only senson that I found was the turbo map sensor right next to the brake booster. It idles really high but is very sluggish. it feels like it's out of timing or it's getting way to much gas, or not enough. I'm going to try and check the compression, fuel filter, injectors. Do you know of anything else that I can check? Thanks for the info.

Maybe ignition problems?

I've checked the compression and it's fine. I checked the spark at one of the leading sparkplugs and it seemed kind of week. Could the coils go bad? If so, would getting the HKS Twin Power Ignition for 93+ RX-7 replace those bad coils or are they just providing more power to the existing coils?

I just went throught this while tuning the new EMS. I was so paranoid about blowing the motor I didn't even think to check the plugs.... which were fouled.

Check the plugs and wires

check for vacuum leak. high idle generally indicates that.
check from the oil neck to the manifold, and the brake booster line, and anything else that might be leaking....
