Heat shield for T78

How many of single turbo guys use Turbo heat wrap or other kinds of heat shields. I am wanting to get something to cover up the rusty housing. I can't go the ceramic route. I would like to but there any place close and my car is my daily drive so I would need to make this process quick. I am considering the DEI heat wrap. It is a universal kit and I am not sure if it will fit the T78. Any tips and suggestions would be appreciated.

I wrapped my down pipe with the DEI wrap and painted it with the silver silcone paint and I am very pleased with the results. I really cuts down on the heat. REALLY.

Brady, they have high luster silver ceramic paint that should hold on to the housing but the mani is a bit hot for it as it cooked off mine.

I tried the paint route too on my down pipe. It cooked off in about 30 minutes. I was actually wanting to go with some kind of Turbo wrap or other type of heat shield. The 1500 degree silicone paint I now have painted over the wrap on my down pipe is holding up great.

Doesn't anyone have thier turbo wrapped? Or have some other type of heat shield on it.

So why can't you go the ceramic route? Cash? If so, how much have you been quoted. After using FOUR different companies, I've found that prices vary greatly.

I live in a little bity town. And the closet place is over two hours away. My car is my daily driver so the turn around time is my biggest concern. It seems like every time I take my car apart it starts raining and then I am stuck riding my CBR929. I took a Friday and a Monday off so I would have time to install my T78 kit. I think I am going to go with the DEI turbo wrap kit. I am really happy with the wrap and high temp paint I used on my down pipe.

Let me know if the DEI wrap kit fit the turbo by entirely wrapping around the exhaust housing, I've seen where people haven't been able to wrap the entire exhaust housing, and only partially cover it. I have a T88 and would like to also do the same thing, but worried that it won't fit.

I am going to order the kit some time next week if I cann't find something better. I was hoping someone on the forum had tried it, and could let me know if it would fit in advance. I wonder who else makes kits like this. The only two I know of is DEI and Thermo tech.

I have seen some covers that look like it comes in two peices. Does anyone know who makes this one.? It looks more like hard aluminum than aluminum cloth wrap.

I just installed the DEI kit on my T78. Fits fine. There's actually more than enough material to do the job correctly. I've also used the thermotec and the DEI is better made and higher quality. There's a new turbo heat shield coming out but it's not available yet. In a month or so. Here's the link:

Looks to be a little more high tech and sturdy. Not sure on price. Bought my DEI kit at Summit Racing.

Thanks for the reply. Was it hard to install? Do you have any pics of it yet? Thanks,

Brady

I'll take some pics tomorrow if I have time...slapping the engine and turbo system in the car in one day. The DEI stuff is on there "loosely" now as it'll make it easier to assemble everything. Once on, I'll tighten the shield.

I ordered my DEI turbo wrap kit today. I ordered some more of the high temp silver paint for the areas that won't be covered by the wrap. I am going to polish the compressor housing while I have it apart. Then in should look really pretty.
