Russ did have some strange issues going on with his engine before tuning. Regardless, Steve tuned my GT40 plain bearing turbo earlier in the day. The GT40R in Russ' car started to produce more hp earlier in the rev range (spooled a bit quicker) but due to the less than optimal motor on Russ' car, I ended up with better numbers, better midrange and torque. Steve does feel that the turbo should be good for 440rwhp at 17psi (40R).

I seem to max out just shy of 400hp (397 or something at 16psi) but Rolo and Steve both felt my motor did not have even compression on each rotor face. I reused the Cosmo rotor housings with Atkins 2mm 2-piece. If I remember what they were saying, the corner seals allow compression past the groove in the rotor housing. I may get a compression test done and look at rebuilding my motor with fresh rotor housings and rotors. Interestingly, everyone's power falls off at 7K rpm due to the stock intake manifold. I ported my lower intake manifold and it keeps pulling right up to 8K (and beyond). I ported maybe the last five inches of the lower intake manifold and nothing more.

It was an interesting dyno session none the less as we had an RX6, 60-1, GT4082, GT40R, T04e all in attendance. I left before the last guy with the T04e so I'm not sure what his final numbers were. I have a printout with all the dyno runs except for the T04e. I'll start a new thread and post it there.

Forgot to mention, Steve was able to pull out 30-40hp more throughout the midrange. He did a great job on everyone's car.

Highly, unlikely I have way too may cars running these GT turbine wheels without incident.

I have spoken with him on this, and told him how to handle it. I believe it will help resolve the mysterious part of it.Or at the very least keep him from doing the damage he is doing.

I don't feel it's the turbo kit either. Things weren't perfect going into the dyno for Russ' engine. Plenty of people running the kits without problem as well.

This is my car and I do not think its the turbo at all. But from the little bit of info about the car with the GT40R we may have similar issues. I would like to talk to him as we may both be able to help each other and I have a huge head start on him. First of all i would like a list of mods and see what we have in common. I am about to test the timing with a light at WOT and see if its going crazy. The ing amplifier may be too much for the harness or wires etc. Also looking for consistancy on the crank angle sensor etc. Please get in touch with me. I believe Chris has PM'd you about this already Russ? MIKE.

Chris/Mike,

Thanks for all the info you (Chris) has already sent me and YES! I want to work with you guys on figuring out what's up here........

At this stage I'm really just taking in all the data and trying to process the possibilities. Chris's info on the PM was amazing in detail and insight an I really appreciate you guys helping me out in this way. Obviously, you are both way ahead of me in terms of narrowing down the variables on this issue. One thing missing is the state of my engine going into the tuning session. I will be PMing Chris back with some details on my configuration and issues prior to the tune - maybe between us all we can narrow it down even further.

Mike, I'll send you a copy of my mods and background on my newly rebuilt engine and I'll also paste my sig. on this post.

I drove the car again today and while it does have some continuing issues (pre-tuning session) - it's still awesome.......

Consider me a "single" convert.....

Russ.

The dyno sheets displaying the HP potential for the R85 at both low and hi boost have been posted on www.kgparts.com for a while now.

Doubt it but just in case anyone is interested in the full race kit those dyno sheets can be found on www.reactiveracing.com , who knows maybe someone is interested in building a drag car that needs to make over 800rwhp

Customers will start recieving thier kits within a week or two.

I'm sure when the end users start bolting the R85 Kits on they will start posting there own results.

I know I am going with the kit Demtrios made because he uses the kit he sells. I like the companies that sell turbo kits, but race with something that they don't sell. Plus Demetrios is a top notch guy, and he is about helping out the rotary community, it isn't just about the money with him.

I agree with you Dee is a great guy and i trust his judgement. Not to take sides I have also delt with A-spec mainly for parts and even support. I havnt been dissappointed with either. A-spec does in fact also use the turbos they sell. They are more of a shop while Dee is more of a race team. I see benefits of either. It all comes down to support and knowledge. As you can see they both post and support the forum members. Ive done business with both and i can say you cant go wrong with either. Both are assetts to the community. Also not to leave anyone out Steve Kan of gotham racing has been just as active. he takes alot of his weekends and travels all over the US to tune rx7's. Dee has done this as well to some extent. Steve is also a great resource. I have experience with all 3 and are all top notch.

Well put ZoomZoom. It does seem that all 3 are about taking care of their customers and helping the rotary community in general. I wish that more people in the business world would be like these 3 guys!! Things would be so much easier.

Stock ports would choke a turbo that big.

I voted for the gt40r because that's what I have coming.

Sean, how's my order? Did the turbos come in on time? Drop me a line.

Can we get a realistic street boost comparison? Most states do not have high octane pump gas. I'd like to see 14lbs since most people can't agree on the equivilent of one bar.

By the way, I wasn't bashing the turbines. I was just thinking out loud. It sounded impossible to me that a healthy turbo would kill an engine unless detonation or oil starvation was involved. But either way, that's not the turbo's problem.

Any news from either turbo on the dyno yet?? I'm sure that I'm not the only person wanting to see some more dyno sheets!! Laterz.

I am hoping to get some gt40R numbers for everyone from at A-spec, they have my car now and am installing a fresh streetported motor along with there gt40r kit, it sounds like it is in the last stages of getting assembled and will be on the dyno and road very soon. Hope this helps everyone with some more info on picking the right turbo setup for there car but ultimately in the end what is right for one person isn't always going to be right for everyone else. My decision to get the GT40R was based on the guys at A-spec they have been top notch from the beginning and I have no worries that what I am going to get back will exceed my expectations. So hopefully within the next month we will all start to see some numbers for the newer turbo kits out there.
