Is GT40 watercooled?
Ive looked at pictures and sites and it appears that the regular GT40's arnt watercooled but if you get a GT40R it is watercooled, so the ball bearing is, and the regular isnt?

Sean, are you sure you cannot get a water cooled option? There are plenty of water cooled nonBB Garrett turbos around. Precision will make almost anything with a water cooled CHRA. Off the shelf sean is accurate, but you can have almost anything made up. Carl

Carl you cannot get a GT40 centre section water cooled. If you want to order a 40R centre section with GT40 wheels I could do that but why? Ordering a pieced together turbo from Precision is not ordering a GT40 turbo. I can build you whatever you want but it wont be a Garrett GT turbo at that point. ie. GT35RT4 with 67mm inducer. It will be a A-spec GT turbo hybrid of some kind. Precision warranties what they build. I guarantee Garrett wont warranty a Precision turbo.

Well, thanks for the info on the center section. As forwho warranties what, I've always dealt with whatever shop sold me the turbo. Ultimately the warranty is between the shop, and whomever they bought the turbo from. I know Precision covers anything they build, so who handles the warranty is not really important, as long as they do it in a reasonably prompt fashion. I wonder what center section Precision and ATP use if it is not Garrett(since both will quote a water cooled center)? I gather you are stating that the water cooled center sections that Garrett sells are not compatible with GT series shafts, or are you saying Garrrett only makes a water cooled BB center, not a journal bearing? Is there some other center section other than GT series that Garrett makes that is water cooled? thanks, Carl

I got a e-mail from Garrett
Neither of the GT40s we are currently offering: GT4088 & GT4082 are watercooled.
We are however in the process of
launching a ball bearing range of the GT40s that will be watercooled.
We expect the launch the BB watercooled GT40s in about a month or so.

Garrett Gearhead

^^ what he said^^
The GT series are only available in oil lub and no water cooling and the centers are NOT compatable with the older T3/T4 centers. The only way to get a GT watercooled aside from getting the R version (which is BB) is to build a standard frame t3/t4 with GT compressor wheels. And I don't think, but am not 100% sure, you'll only be able to run the older T3 or T4 turbines if you go that route. The GT turbines/shafts are not compatable with the t3/t4 stuff. You can however, get GT turbine wheels that are compatable with t3/t4 frames from Innovative Turbo. Its not a Garrett turbine, but its Innovatives own exclusive and they are VERY effecient and come in materials Mar-M or Inconnel (both extremely high grades and rotor friendly). No I'm not accociated with ITS, but I do have some of their parts in my personal turbo (GT turbine Mar-M wheel, and double ceramic ball bearing center) and find their parts TOP quality.
