GT35r
Hey everyone,
New to the rotary scene, came from an evo, just been poking my head around the forums a bit doing my research.
From everyones experience, how well/what do these stock rotary motors and trannys typically hold up to? From what ive read fueling plays a big part with cooling and preventing detonation. But lets say I have a stock rotary motor, with 60k on it and I went with the single conversion (obviously) and did the GT35R setup at about running on 93 octane.
I look forward to your responses
Don

Do a little research on the gt3574 and TD61 turbos, they are 35R's with larger rotary friendly turbine wheels and true T4 turbine housings and will make more top end power with only slightly compromising low end and spool up. However the regular 35r's are still good and many people including myself are happy with the garrett off the shelf configuration, just go with the T4 footprint 1.06 option. Also to make your life easier do not run an ebay manifold, add a water/meth kit for sure (water only is great for these motors) and pick up a top feed secondary fuel rail and some ID/EV14 2200cc secondary injectors and stick with oem 550's or ID/EV14 725cc primaries, stay away from 850cc primaries. Also of course you will need an ecu, and other supporting mods.

I was asking right around what HP/TQ numbers do people usually have issues with stock motors and transmissions not being able to handle it.

Get a good tuner, don't cheap out on fuel upgrades, and the motor isn't a concern. You can add some water injection for extra re-assurance.
There isn't a magic number where the tranny will start giving issues, it depends on its use. People are are running around the street with 600+ rwhp 20b's without issue. Don't bang gears and you don't have to worry about the tranny. I drove around the track with 450-500 rwhp every other weekend before and only managed to break 2 of them in 2 seasons.
