GT,TV,and TA
im very curious what the relationship between these turbo's is.ive never even heard of anyone outside of australia running a TA or TV turbo.can some one clear this up for me.im thinking of going with a gt42 but i figured i should explore all my options.and since i cant find any info on anything but the GT series i figured i should ask u guys
thanks alot

TV and TA series turbochargers are what Garrett described as traditional turbochargers. In other words, they're outdated. Why are you thinking about a GT42? How much and what kind of power are you trying to make? If you want to know more about Garrett's turbochargers, check out

I just got a GT40 on my RE powered Turbo II, and I love it. The GT42 is a bit bigger and should give a good pull up top, personally I wouldn't get BB, and don't any a/r above 1 unless you're just a dyno queen. Best of luck with your set up, BTW the GT42 is rated at 1,100 hp on a piston motor so somewhere around 850 hp on a rotary.

Where did you get that information about the GT42?
I agree with not going above 1.0 on the turbine A/R. The turbo would probably start spooling at, maybe, 5000 rpm. I'm sure its boost threshold will not be reached until at least the top end of the rpm band. If it is available, try a turbocharger with a 0.8~0.96 turbine A/R. If you tune it right, you may be able to get a break-neck response .

Power
im expecting somewhere around 550-600rwhp on c16.them motor itself is almost ready to be closed up.
just some highlites
3 window race bearings
grooved stationary gears
2 extra dowel pins
s4 turbo rotors(figured i would just work the turbo alittle bit harder to make up)
high overlap s/p by Rotary Performance Plus of Houston,TX
i dont mind bein called a dyno queen.as long as from a 2nd or 3rd gear roll i kill everything.look out supras's here i come.

550-600rwhp isn't really a dyno queen. I got this info off of many places one of them being centralfloridaturbo.com . I'm looking to get over 600rwhp with my set up, and it's only a GT40.

If you are running a GT42 turbocharger with C16, tune it right, and you will get far more than 600 rwhp. With so little, information, it is hard to determine what kind of boost, A/F ratio, you should run to achieve the desired results. If you pm me, or if you are going to the RX-7 Club of Houston's meeting on August 3, I would be more than willing to help .

high rpm makes up for the intake reversion at low rpm.once the incoming intake charge velocity is high enough to stop intake reversion it will make up for it(ie i dont race from 2k-4k ).i plan on reving to atleast 9k.
were located off of shepard on north 610.
if m friend has a problem tuning the cr im sure his buddy rolo of CFT wont.

Is your application for street or race use? I don't think a rotary engine with high port overlap is going to pass emissions .
The real issue is, how much boost are you trying to run? From the looks of it, you want to seriously pressurize this car. You're right. Port overlap is good for high-rpm use, not to mention it can withstand high boost.
Like I said, it depends on the application. If you're out to kill Supras on a rolling start, then I guess it's okay to employ lapped ports. IMO, I hate reversion just as much as rotarygod. Sure low port overlap is going to limit how much boost I can put on the engine, but I personally prefer low-speed driveability, not to mention pass my yearly emissions (I own an RX-8. Check out my protozifile ). I could care less if the boost falls off at mid-rpm. I could set my tertiary ports to open during boost to help keep it near the top end .
Good luck with your project TO4Eneedy .
BTW, do you have an exact address for Rotary Performance Plus?

im not building a street legal car.im building a "streetable" car.emmission is the last thing im worried about.low speed driveability is a very small part of the equation for me.if im racing its from 4k+ and up.the car is only gonna see the street on friday and saturday nights the rest of the time it will be in the garage, while i drive my beater accord.the supra's around houston have been getting too acustom to being top of the foodchain,i want to shake things up a bit.
give my friend a call gabriel (owner) a call he knows the address(832) 630-2070
tell him aaron sent u.

if ur heading west it will be on ur right.before u reach the beltway, right after the light before the beltway.in the parking lot.on saturday it's kinda hard to miss.no ricers show up so its a good enviroment.
