GT 35/40 20 psi dyno

I went to KDR today and did some dyno pulls at 19-20 psi. Max power was 470 rwhp and 371 lb/ft torque. Air fuel ratios were in the mid 11's with intake temps in the low 40's C. This was done on stock ignition with 10.5 race plugs. I am pretty satisfied, as alot of guys didn't believe this turbo would make big power. With a little more boost and tuning, I think 500 hp may be attainable. I didn't want to push it, as I don't really trust my cosmo pump that high. Will also need to upgrade the ignition.

Re: GT 35/40 20 psi dyno

sweet Ihor..great #'s for basically a new turbo on the scene..with a couple more days on the dyno you should be able to pull 500rwhp, good luck!

Its a big street port. I basically told KDR to make it as big as possible without compromising reliability. Its not as crazy as Vosko's.

do you use resistors with your 1600 cc injectors,
and do you use a xs fpr, at what pressure?

Re: GT 35/40 20 psi dyno

hey its funny we dont hear from "Carl Byck" he dedicated a whole thread saying no one could do 500rwhp at 20-24psi..i think his thread was called "GT35/40=500rwhp, I doubt it"... well Ihors 470rwhp at 19-20psi is sure close to that with power down low too

Well yeah, I think just with a strong CDI upgrade he would be nudging 480's I did 490odd rwhp (dynojet converted) with an older style TO4 at that boost level, but without the equal midrange power (below 5.8krpm).

I would say with 22psi he should crack 500 but 24psi should be a shoe in, unless the turbine section is at its maximum potential ? I rekon it should be able to be squeezed out based on his super dyno run @ 20psi....... 500 is a nice round number

Looking at the dyno run it looks like they let off too early. It might have well come closer to the magical 500 hp mark if they had stayed on it. It also looks like there was some problem at the end of the run judging by the spikes at redline. Probably that's why they let off early.
The only problem I have with the run is that it's not the 'SAE CORRECTED' version. Normally depending on conditions the 'STD' version would read higher.
Who said it's not possible too make 500hp at 20 psi!

It is realy cold over there at the moment I hear on the news, so if the runs were not corrected then that would be worth a bit ?

Maybe the spikes in the run are why he wants the ignition upgrade ? either way he is well on his way to the magical 500rwhp.

I forgot to ask was it using pump gas and street set up (muffler, air filter etc)? cant wait for your next dyno session I bet

Congratulations on the numbers Ihor!

I raced my 1st gen on the weekend and ran a 10.08 @ 136mph (damn! almost got my 9 second timeslip for xmas!)

My rx-7 has the same turbo as yours...

Can I ask why you think the turbine?

I hear they are a T3 exhaust section? not sure just wondering out loud if that would be a bit small for a big streetport 13B running abit of overlap. Say if the exhaust manifold pressure starts to go realy high compared to the inlet manifold pressure the engine may well start loosing a bit of efficiency therefore hurting the power you can make once you start running realy high boost. I do not know I have not run one and am going of what others have experienced realy, so am open to what comes out.......When my turbo expires I may even consider changing to this unit from the positive experience you have had along with the results of the guys of here, I just am wondering how much back pressure this unit has and what effect it would have on more heavily ported engines (may work best with milder motors?).

10.08 @ 136MPH is bloody great, congrats How much boost were you running when you did that. How much power do you estimate from your set up based on that run? Please if you could for the benifit of readers share what spec the car was in in terms of engine set up......cheers.

Pete

Now that would have been a beautiful gift!
Still a very impressive run though. You still have some time left before the new year.

It was a pretty quiet night on Saturday when I raced, and I ran a string of 10.1s and then the 10.08 on the last pass of the night.

1985 RX-7, 1990 13B engine (S5) with the usual, and the GT35/40 turbo. Oh, still using a stock Series 5 (TII) gearbox as well, LOL! I am probably making more HP than Ihor but not 100% sure how much.

My car launches pretty well (1.36 60' best) so this helps get decent ETs. It only ran a 1.44 on the 10.08 pass but I don't think the track was there as it was wheelspinning with the front wheels in the air!

Unfortunately Crispeed, there are no more meetings until next year Don't forget it is summer down here, so ambient was in the 80F range I think. Good luck with your car for when you next hit the track, hopefully I'll get a chance to visit the USA again next year and see your car in action!
