Everything is so damn clean

 

At the time of the build Gotham knew that I was looking to run high horse power so I hope that they balanced everything. I will call them and ask. Now that you have me wondering that.

 

Goodfellafd3s, It wasnt that clean when I started the build. I am a bit of a clean freak so I did a lot of cleaning. Even though the car only has 57k on it.

You can get therm-tec 2000 degree heat sleeving from summit racing for lines close to the hot side of the turbo, such as the abs line, any vacuum lines, coolant lines, etc. Gotham sells a nice thick blue silicone hose (like 5/8th diameter) that works great for the coolant line from the hard line over to the wp housing (loops under the comp housing).

If you need to know part #s for the thermo-tec sleeve Ihor and I use at our shop on all our single turbo builds, let me know

 

GoodfellaFD3S will the 99 front end have a large enough opening for my fmic? I could use that part # as well.

 

The 3 row will fit, but you'll have to trim the backside of the bumper opening. that's one reason why i don't like the greddy fmics. My blitz installed without even removing the front bumper

I forgot about the part #s, I'm going to the shop friday and saturday to pull and teardown a motor so I'll get those part #s for ya.....

 

Thermo-tec thermo-sleeve Part # 14005, 1/4 to 1/2 diam by 3 feet long.
Works well for vacuum lines, wastegate line etc.

Thermo-tec thermo-sleeve Part # 14010, 5/8 to 1 inch diam by 3 feet long.
Works well for turbo coolant feed and return lines, as well as oil drain and heater hose lines.

Thermo-tec therm-shield ultra Part #14000, 1 1/2 inch by 15 feet long.
This has adhesive backing and is just a long flat roll....it's good for random shielding needs where you can't slip the thermo-sleeve tube over one open end of a line, ie abs line or ecu harness.

Dumb question, maybe. I am having trouble figuring out how the charge pipe is going to work. There is not enough room for the pipe to come from the top and I think that it would cause a problem if it had to go under the radiator. I dont know if anyone else has used the Gotham manifold. The way that it is desined is that they push the turbo up and to the front of the car. So by doing that it cuts down on the possibility of the charge pipe coming from the top. If any one has a pics or any thing that can help me out please let me know.

 

There's a greddy 120 degree bend pipe that works well on my setup (you can get it at Gotham), it makes a pretty tight bend off the compressor:

 

Your turbo sits alot lower than mine does. With my hood closed I have about one inch before it hits the hood.

 

Damn. I'd recommend calling Alex at Gotham and seeing what he recommends.

 

I left him an e-mail tyring to figure out how the charge pipe is going to work but, he hasnt gotten back to me yet.

 

Your best bet is probably to blow up their phone if the issue is time sensitive. Alex is swamped, and it'll probably take him awhile to email ya back.

 

Couple of questions....

I'm finally upgrading to the same intercooler you have, I'm doing the install this weekend if the weather is nice, what did you use to cut the bumper?

With so little left of the bumper support did you think about just removing it?

Good choice on the TEC unit, I really like it, I have one in my car as well.

Is Kan still at Gotham? The reason I'm asking is because I see a new name, ALex...

I used a sawzall to cut the bumper support and a utility knife to trim down the front bumper. A new blade works great. It gives you a nice cut every time. I would keep the bumper support just because it does give your bumper a little support. It is also there in case you do hit something. I dont think that after you cut that huge section out of it it doesnt way hardly any thing.

Have fun cutting down the bumper. I took my time cutting it down and it took me 5 hrs to get it rite.

I did talk to Alex today. My charge pipes just got shipped out today. He e-mailed me pics so that I know which pipes go together. So I should have more pics to share soon.

 

Alex, Steve and I are the three owners of Gotham. I'm almost bought out, but not quite there. Steve's been working at motorola full time, so he's been at the shop sparingly. I'm not there at all of course b/c I live on the other coast and have my own (much smaller) rotary shop, IRP, that I run with Ihor. Alex has been there since 2003, so he's certainly not new....he's just doesnt have the time to hang out on the forum, much like chris and ari over at RP. With Steve working so hard at Motorola, Alex has really been the glue holding the shop together for the last few years and he deserves a lot of credit

 

Steve sure does work hard. Alex and his mechanic George handle about 99% of the workload at Gotham. If it wasn't for Alex taking care of everthing, nothing would ever get done.

 

I agree. I think if Alex was not there I would have never gotten my parts. He is tons of help.

 

The gotham 42r kit looks awsome on your car!! Alex did a great job helping me out with my car.

Damn, that turbo makes mine look small. Anthony's ceramic coating is the absolute best around, you'll love the effect it has on heat management.

Again, the engine bay looks frigging immaculate.....one nit though, you might want to remove all the rust from the main crank pulley before it damages the belt.

 

I will make sure I do that FD3S. Rest just shows up after letting the car sit for 3 yrs. This has taken me a long time to get to this point.
