fuel system advice, where to put it all?

Ok, I went out and blew a wad today on my fuel system, and now I need to figure out where to put it all and how to run my pick up tube. I bought the big Aeromotive 1000 pump, filter, regulator, fittings and lines to plumb the whole thing. Should have enough fuel to take me however far I want to go.
My plan is to run the 5/8" hard line to the pump. 10 steel braided line up the the engine where it will split into 2 8 braided line, 1 to each fuel rail, 8 line back to the regulator, then 6 line back to the tank.
Where is a good place to mount the pump on a 3rd gen? How should I run the pickup tube? I have a bunch of 5/8" hard line to run from the tank to the pump. I was thinking about just running through the stock plate where the line for the pump usually would go. Do I need a pre pump? This is my 1st real undertaking of this nature so any input would be helpful.
Thanks,
Cliff
