freaking out over going to single turbo set up.
Well I will start the story off by saying I was not planing to go single. The car ran fine and I autox and road coursed it with no problems. I owned the car since November 2nd and it was stock under the hood but had Koni Yellow with ground control, ungraded front and rear sway bars and racing seats. Well, as I am hitting this forum up every day reading and learning the thing I came across most is keeping it cool expecially for me racing it all the time. So one part came another. Flyidine rad, Greddy pulley kit, Greddy intake, 4" intercooler(forgot the name brand) and 3" Megan racing exhaust all the way back. So we take the front end apart for the new intercool and rad, then take off exhaust to bolt the new one on to mock it up, all is well. We then take off top part of intake to get ready for the block off plates when we delete the air pump and some other things. Here comes the FUN PART!!! buddy grabs screw driver (DUN DUN dun) aparently this one had a magnetic tip and had a small screw on it and right when the screw saw its chance over the open intake, it took it. FALLS OFF AND INTO THE INTAKE!!! F BOMB! along with a sigh. So in order to take that off we have to end up taking more off then we expected. When we took off the twin turbos which I was told had 1,500 miles on them wel saw the one side looked brand new no shaft play, so we flipped her around and the other guy looked great then we saw a fin was broke! PIST OFF! so now instead of fixing the TTs I would like to go single to get rid of that horrible rats nest cuz that is just a mess. I am searching and reading but not that good of luck yet. I am wondering is it worth going single over TT and is it a pain to switch over to a single. Is there any diagrams on here or anywhere that will help the conversion? Or just fix the turbos and be happy?
Thanks for all who help and sorry for the book,
Darin

Since you autox then you may want to stick with the twins as they will spool quicker than a single turbo.
we have not dug down that deep yet for the screw, lower intake needs to come off next. I need to upgrade all that for a small turbo? I dont want more then 350hp, just want it to run great with less hastle of all the hoses and solinods and what not.
well I hope I got good news today. I am getting a HX35 giving to me and he is also going to custom make a down pipe and all the goods. I have block off plates for what is needed. Now is this a good idea??? The turbo can make about 500hp but i am hoping to tune it to 350 or 400 and all I believe I am needing is a PFC. Would I need anything else besides a PFC or upgrade anything? The turbo should spool up close to 3500 or 4000rpms. GOOD DEAL?
Track down that screw first. If you need a rebuild, that may change your mind to go single due to more funds being needed.
A turbo upgrade would likely need a fuel system upgrade. I'm not sure what an fd has stock, but my FC needed a larger fuel pump, fuel pump re-wire, larger injectors. It would also be the perfect time to get rid of the pulsation damper.
Then you need to ask, will your oem clutch hold up? I don't want to run my FC for a month and have to rip out the engine again due to the oem clutch not holding up. Not sure what the FD has, but it's a good time to replace it.

Newbie.. we all been there.
Buy the ebay manifold, one of those eba ywastegate 44m the vband gsp version, ebay gt45/ t66 1.00 a/r , ebay bolt kn front mount intercooler. Pfc for tuning. Rewire fuelpump. Fuel press regulator.
Good for 300whp about limit of stock injectors. I have a friend running a year already like that @340whp 14psi but with microtech. Yes i know risky but his choice.
How long will the parts last? I have no clue. But till now i have seen two local run this setup for a year or more and they are still running.

I run a single on stock fuel system and as long as you tune accordingly and keep the boost down it can be done. The problem is that if I upgrade the injectors then I can up the boost, but I don't have much turbo left. If i swap the turbo then I should go to a larger exhaust....you see where this is going.
It can be done but it's a slippery slope.

front mount intercooler I will never due!!! Looking at a PFC as we speek and I have all the items like turbo, bov, down pipe, boost controller, and your what nots. Newbies put front mount intercoolers on Indio84. sorry. I read up a ton on best parts to get for the car before this happened and there is even a thread I found on recommend upgrades. Learned from Zumspeed(smart member on here) that front mounts are not worth it for the fact the piping is to long to travel and the air is warm before it gets to where it needs to be. Plus no Ebay name brands are going on this.

Hear ya on that. I am not looking at all to turn the boost up, and keeping it around the 10 to 12 pounds that it had before this crazy fun started to happen.
WHOOOOOOOO NUT FOUND!! It was indeed dropped down the lower intake manifold on the first one closest to the fire wall. now I get to freak out on the build. Total build for this is $1600 and happy cuz all that hose bullshit was retarded.
93 FD3s 13b 40,800 miles

Still has the factory engine and fuel system and ignition system and fuel pump!
Anyone like this set up or have any ideas for it??

I am actually in the middle of buying a PFC as we speak but Rx7 store is out right now and have no ETA of new ones coming in so I am lost looking for one. I understanding tuning is a major part in this project dont worry.
