Hmmm, back from the dead. I wonder if theres a list of the A/R's on powerstroke turbos.

The powerstroke turbo is smaller than the one in the pic, its as first mentioned, the 7.8 litre turbo is the one that works pretty good, the powerstroke is the 7.3 litre ford.. Similar turbo's can be found on detroit and catapillar diesels as well...
I learnt alot about these turbo's when I went searching for the v-band clamp and exhaust ferrule for the turbine side at diesel engine shops.. I also saw alot of TV48's and garrett T-51's meant for diesel trucks, if you knew exactly what you were looking for part number wise, you could score a really wicked turbo for about 1/2 the cost of what you would pay at a "tuner/performance" shop for a automotive performance turbo and you would more or less end up with the same thing..
All of the turbo's that are motorsport turbos, were at one time or another used in a diesel application somewhere...Max

T-51? Like the HKS T51 size? or is it just a similar naming for the turbo?

Maxthe7man 12-25-02 11:52 PM

It may just be similar tagging, I can't say for sure, I have only seen an HKS t-51 once..
I know there are some bloody great turbo's out there and if you are brave enough to buy them they can be had for 250-300 a piece, plus alot of them have built in wastegates I noticed..
My turbo is at a turbo specialist getting fixed right now, I am gonna look at some bigger diesel turbo's when I go back there and will let you know what I see..Max

Im using a desiel turbo on my FC, its a TV73-01 Garret off of a Detroit 2stroke. Now i called TurboPerformance to see if this would work and the answer i got was yes. It has a comp .78 and turbine 1.08, the flange is a bit bigger than a T4 so were making one. The guy i got it from was using it on a 3rd gen and running a 10.20 et. The only problem we seem to be running into is its quite heavy. I had my local turbo guy whos doing the work on it check the price and its 700 wholesale, but still in production. I wont know for about 2 months how it runs but ill keep ya up to date.
