First drive with my NEW SINGLE !!!
Hey Everyone,
I just had a chance to drive my car with the brand new T04E. I spent almost 6 months waiting for my car to be totally finished and I drove it a few days ago. I haven't had a chance to dyno tune as of yet, but I will post numbers soon.
So I got into my car and my mechanic tells me it's only set to 10 psi. He said we should keep it conservative until dyno day. Fair enough. So first thing I notice is that their is a little more frame vibration at idle due to the new torque brace and the overall upped craziness of the engine. So I get behind the wheel and get on to the road driving like a kid trying careful not to break his toy. I check temps and the car is warm and ready. I go to a vacant street away from traffic and let it open up. I'm expecting the lag, but there is barely any....and then BAM! A gust of power hits and the thing goes to warp speed! I look at the speedo and the thing is climbing stupid fast. I slow down and do another run to check if boost is stable - check! I give her again but this time in second...gave too much and my *** is going sideaways. Try it in third, same thing, I'm laying down patches. Now I need new rubber. I took her out for a few more runs after that to get the feel of it. The thing I noticed the most (aside from the sheer nutty power) was that the car felt very linear. No more stupid second turbo transition crap!
I'd like to thank all the boyz on the forum that helped me pick the pieces for my combo. It worked awesome! There is still more tuning to be done to extract all the power we can (it's still running too rich). So I'm sure I will be drawing on everyone's experience again in the near future. It goes to paint soon as well where I hope to put up pics and dyno sheet together.
Thx again guys!
Jay.

Congrats on your new setup!
I am still a fan of the stock sequentials for their low-RPM performance, but I share your feeling that it is very nice to get rid of the transition. The car really feels better with a smooth powerband all the way up. My car used to lose traction abruptly at the transition, and now (with a single) it still breaks traction , but it is much easier to control. I think the fears of lag from the larger singles is due in part to the driving habits we develop with the twins (staying under the transition on the street).

Yeah still on the stock rubber. I tried driving in the rain, and it was absolutely useless.
As far as the turbo goes it's a normal Turbonetics T04E (not ball-bearing, not bigshaft w/Q trim, no "tuff" coat protection - although it is ceramic-coated). Just a pretty good turbo that I hoped to use to minimize lag, at the same time learn to drive better with, before going with a bigger ball-bearing in the future. I bought the turbo assembly alone (opposed to a kit), and picked/custom-made the rest of the parts separately (eg. wastegate, headers...etc.).

Oh sorry guys, I had written down my A/R, inducer, exducer specs...etc., but misplaced them. Will post shortly.
On a separate note, how big of a difference would a ball-bearing option make? Would it spool MUCH faster?

Yeah it is ported and I went through the painful process of breaking it in. I'm keeping the boost low, and it's tuned pretty rich as well. I have set-up all the warnings on my Defi and Blitz stuff to show boost spiking, high egt's, lean A/F ratios...etc. It's my baby and I can't hurt her! Thanks for keepin' an eye out anyways guys.

Yup, you saw it there? I've already set-up a total body and paint job for it. It's fast, now I have to make it look good again. If I could find the guy that put the dings in my car I would love to torture him to death. Which car is yours? What have you done so far?

Mine's not there yet...it's the one in my avatar. Motor is coming from Calgary then Greg will do his stuff on it. I can't wait since i haven't driven it for 1.5 years.
We'll see how the GT40R does also. Should be a gooder.

Damn! You went with the GT40R !? That is just going to be crazy. Yeah my car sat at the shop almost a year as well. Very painful to be patient. Can't wait to see it when done. I'm sure i will see it at the shop in the next few weeks though. Hope to see you there.
