Fastest spooling turbo?

I'm really close to getting an FD, and I think I'll shoot for about high 300 to low 400 rwhp on pump gas. I wanna car that feels as close to NA as possible with that power level, so I want the fastest spooling turbo possible for that much power. What turbo would I need to achieve that on pump gas? Thanks in advance.

Anything with a BB center, so that's like the Garrett GT-series or the IHI stuff that A'PEXi sells.

Does anyone notice that these posts are phrased almost exactly alike when someone is looking to go single? It's almost as predictable as the 3 gen newbie questions on wanting to buy a RX7. "I want a turbo that you can get 400 horsepower and low spool." I even asked the same questions when debating myself. I found out that lag ain't **** for an FD because of the rpm range of it and if you looking for a stock spool rate, stay with the stock turbos.

I'm going to suggest you go the route I took. A TO4S starts to spool around 3500 and you get rolling around 4000-4500. You do not want to go single and get a stock spool rate. That would require either a very expensive BB turbo to rebuild or a turbo very similar to stock in terms of power. You have never owned an RX7 so you don't know that the power band of these things is way better than you late supra or the IS300. You can boost with the TO4S to 8000 or more if you want to risk it. I would not suggest a T78 like your old supra. These are real laggy kits and not what it seems you are going for.

To think about it...you might even want to look into a TO4E turbo kit both are made by XS. That is a smaller turbo and will make boost earlier on.

Both are some of the best kits out there. They have journal bearings not BB but have a phenomenal spool up time and the rebuild isn't much.

Yup. If you want N/A-like power, you'd better get ready to stick with the twins, whether stock or upgraded.

You'll get ~400rwhp out of the A'pexi IHI RX6 kits, with pretty much full power by ~3200rpms or so, but it still isn't the kind of "instant on" power that the twins provide.

G'luck either way.
