Effects of 10% Ethonal 91 octane. Good? Bad?

So all gas stations up here in Monatan finally went to 10 percent ethonal in all octane ratings. I have to use **** 91 octane since that is as high as we get.

My question is I am about to start WOT full boost tuning on my Apexi PFC 62-1 S4 TII setup and am wondering what does this extra 10% of ethonal mean for tuning dangers?

Will it cause good or bad effects? I am shooting for 380 rwhp at 15psi and don't want to **** it up. I'm already running conservative timing at redline but just want to see what others have found out about this hybrid fuel.

Thanks.

I did some searching and further research. The total concensus is that I will need to add a slight bit of more fuel in the top end .So far all I can find is that this 10% addition of Ethonal will cause a 3% lean increase.

So I guess since my maps are already rich for safety until fine tuned, I will be OK.

Any other input is appreciated.

Most states in the midwest have done this. The state goverment has told us that there are no adverse affects from going from 5 to 10 percent ethonal.
With the boost in ethonal it does take a small amount more fuel but it does add a little bit more protection against detenation. If your running the PFC base map you should be plenty fine till you get the car tuned. Good luck on your tune.

That is bogus. If you had 93 oct fuel and added 10% ethanol, yes the oct average would go up. But you are forgetting the business aspect of it. They sell 93oct gas, so now they produce a product that with the 10 ethanol is still 93 oct by using a lower oct gas for the 90%.

^ exactly. It was 93 octane before, without the ethanol, and now it's still 93 octane, you just need to burn more fuel.

Isn't 10% ethanol a good thing if your tuned for it? Here in Cali it's 91 octane at the pump, but if 10% is ethanol, doesn't that allow us to push a bit more on pump?

It all depends on the fuel supplier. Diffrent tankers mix the fuels diffrently. When they mix E85 in this state it veries a few precent. Right now its more like E65. So its not all bogus.

I dont think California mixes any ethonal in there fuel. There's not to much corn cultivation going on around there.
