does anybody use an electric air pump?

Since I went single my air pump will not fit. I need to pass emissions so I am looking for an electric one. Does anybody use one and from what car does it come from. Thanks Gary

I know several people that use them. They're off of '94 and up LT1 Z-28s or 'Vettes. The way to hook it up is to use the normal clutch/declutch signal from the stock air pump wiring to drive a relay which then supplies power and signal to the appropriate wire on the new pump

i just "installed" one from a 96 vette....got it on ebay for about 50 bucks. i didn't wire it permanently since i wasn't sure it was going to work. simply wired a relay to a toggle switch. if you put it in permanently, you'd want to try and wire it in with the stock airpump clutch on/off wire.

with the single apexi turbo, and n-tech hi flow cat.... not even close on the idle and 2500 rpm test....no matter what you do to the pfc

with the airpump....passed easily, even with the pfc tuned normally.

i still need to get through the california dyno test and visual somehow....we'll see.

Is the new air pump going into the ACV as stock, or did you rip that out and the EGR - and plumb the air pump directly into the cat? I was thinking of doing this as that all the emmisions, save the hi-flow cat, is out.

TIA!

I also used a 'vette electric air pump to pass the dyno test here in Maryland. I hooked it up directly to the metal line gonig to the main cat. I did not have ACV or EGR any longer and still passed. For good measure, I also dumped a gallon of denatured alcohol in the tank when it had about 1/4 tank left. Don't boost too much on this mix just to be safe. Just do the test, then go fill up with high octane, then drive conservatively for that tank.

Don't run the 'vette pump all the time, it will burn out. I had mine wired up with a secret hiddent switch to turn it off/on. I ran it only for about 4 minutes or so while they did the test. It gets really hot if you keep it running.

I saw one on ebay for $43 but I can't get the buyer to confirm that it is an electric one. Off of a 92-96 Corvette.

i plumbed directly into the little port on the side of the n-tech cat. the pump has three wires: one ground, one that turns on the pump, and one which opens the internal "check valve". basically i ran the pump and valve wire to a relay and contolled the relay with a small toggle switch in the cockpit. i just turn it on for the testing but you could wire it to the stock air pump clutch circuit (via a relay). i agree that i wouldn't just leave it running all the time.

sorry i don't have numbers in front of me, but for idle and 2500 rpm no load test it was well under the limits with pump on, and well over the limits with the pump off. at this time no other emissions equipment. incidentally, leaning the power fc significantly didn't make dramatic changes on the emissions, though it helped. this confirms my previous experience that it is very possible to pass at least the simple test with the pfc tuned normally on a car with modest modification.

my emissions problem is complex and i still need to pass the dyno test and visual. if i do pass all that i'll post all the details, since this is becoming a huge issue for all of us. at present i can't drive my car because i can't register it. although it's primarily a track car, i hate the hassle of trailering the thing around.

if i get a chance this week, i'll post a pic of the pump.

anyone out there pass the dyno test with a single yet??? maybe i'll be the first!!

Thanks for the info on the air pump. I did get my motor back in, the new mounts are very tight, it makes the whole car feel new or better than new. Although it has a little shake at idle. My new motor is good but I have a nasty vacuum leak, that **** is really hard to find. It is so bad you can hear it from the drivers seat. An tips on how to find the spot? Got my fjo wide band but haven't got it on yet, wanted to fix my vacuum leak before I start tuning.

I wish it was as simply as a vacuum line. I narrowed it down to my injectors or the gasket on the block. After I get it running right I'll come my.
