Question The Difference in Turbo's.

My question is what is the difference between all of the turbo manufacturers? IHI Mitsubishi, Garrett, etc. I was thinking about buying the apexi kit but its an IHI turbo and the greddy's are mitsubishi but most everybody else that i talk to said that the IHI's suck really bad and the mitsubishi's arn't that great either. Can someone help me out and explain the difference's?

Q: What's the difference between Mazda, Dodge and Ferrari?

A: They build cars in different plants with different parts using different standards.

IHI and mitsubishi are both excellent turbines, the rub lies in geting them rebuilt in the USA, many of the parts are not available, for instance, I had a IHI C-7 that I called several well known and respected builders about in the states about getting rebuilt, and they hemmed and hawed back and forth until they admitted they could only get the bearings, and seals, not wheels houseings etc.

most of the forum members like garrett and its clones because you can get parts for them any where even the brazillian?/Southamerican? clones (master power) and the cheap chinese clones (ss autochrome) parts will fit becasue they are clones

FWIW do not mess with the ss autocrome ones as the have major quality control issues. the master power seam to be OK though for a couple of hundred more you could have genuine garrett vice a clone.

You can source most of the parts for any turbo given the fact that you look around enough. I was able to source wheels for a TD08 and a T51r KAI... not that either of those are very rare, but it's not impossible. =)
