Damage from cracked TID?
Damage from cracked TID?
Hi,
I have an `87 turbo (all stock), and just found out that my turbo inlet duct has been cracked for who knows how long... and been sucking in dirt. The guy that worked on it tried to clean it as best as possible...
Does anyone have any advice on how to gauge the extent of the damage to the turbo? Is it possible/likely that there was no damage?
Thanks for any informed opinions/advice.

Take the turbo off and check for proper sizing bewteen each blacde. It is possible that the turbo was not damaged cause that happened to my first turbo 2. When I bought it off the guy TID was barely even still in the car It was completely off. The turbo was fine. Has your car been acting any different that before you saw the crack.
acting differently... well, maybe i wasn't feeling/seeing as much boost.
about 6-10 mos. ago i was suffering from a clogged pre-cat. i had that "cleaned up" and boost felt awesome compared to before... i guess had a clogged pre-cat for quite a while.
then i don't know if got used to the boost after the hollowed cat or if the feel of less boost is related to this broken TID... i imagine both(?)
other than that the car's all stock with 156k miles.
any chance the contaminants will just be filtered out in the oil system (there is lube on both sides of the turbo, right?)
thx.
