crazy question

hey guys, don't know to much about turbo's but i have a question. i work for a dodge dealer and i have always wanted to know, will any kind of turbo fit on any kind of car?

i'm sure it could work with the right modification but can it be done. lets say a turbo off of a brand new 07 dodge cummins diesel? the turbo's are huge, i just want to know could you use it to for a single set up on the rx7?

thanx, mark

im guessing with the proper modifications, its possible

im also guessing a turbo from a truck like that was made specifically for that application...towing/hauling and the sort.

Also, diesel truck turbos have smaller turbine housings and wheels which aren't really good for RX7 applications. Now as an option, you could take the turbo and get a larger turbine housing and wheel for it. But by then, you may as well have just bought another turbo that's already what you need.

Also, there is a good chance that the turbo from a diesel truck is a variable geometry turbine, which will be difficult for an aftermarket guy to control/ lower temperature limits.

A car can be made to accept just about any turbo, but whether or not the turbo matches the application is another story. It is similar to how you could adapt the wheels, transmission, gas tank, or any other item from a truck to fit a car, but performance may increase or decrease. A huge diesel turbo would have massive lag when attached to a little 13B engine, a smaller diesel turbo may work pretty well, and a very small diesel turbo would surge or choke a 13B.
