Clutch started slipping on the dyno, now what to do?
So I don't want to cheap out here but at the same time I don't want to drop the big bucks on a twin disk just yet (if I don't have to).
So last year when getting my parts to have my brother assemble my car I expected to be running twin's and 330-360whp at max. That all went out the window when the seals blew on my turbo's just after finishing my break in milage. I figured going single at this point was appropriate due to building the car as strong as I did. So before that, when I looked for a clutch I figured the ACT full face disc with a HD PP was enough for a stock twin's car.
I only have like 8k or 9k miles on this clutch. I haven't experienced any problems on the street or during the 6 passes I had at the drag strip. Last year my car was dyno tuned to 374whp and I haven't turned the boost up or done anything other than putting a quieter exhaust on. This time the first pull was on WG spring pressure around 13psi and something like 320whp. I think the second or third pull was when it started to slip but we didn't touch the boost.
I was looking around the forum and so far the only thing I found to be consistent is that twin disc clutches are the **** and definitely work great. I would like to reach 500whp but don't actually expect to do that this year but figure 450whp or a little more is in the cards. If a ACT 6 puck sprung clutch disk with my HD PP will hold up and be tolerable to drive, maybe not ideal but tolerable none the less, I'd like to go that route.
I haven't seen people say what a 6 puck sprung with the HD PP can really handle. Most of what I found was people suggesting clutches for the 400whp cars, complaints of unsprung hub disks, spec clutch bashing, and twin disk's getting praised. Well, I guess most of the puck clutch reviews were unsprung, using XT PP, or not all that clear of horse power capabilities.
If I'm totally off base here sorry, feel free to set me straight. I've been looking but I'm still not clear and would like to resolve this as soon as I can so I can get back to really enjoying the **** out of my car. It's so great cause there aren't a lot of FD's around my immediate area and the one's that are aren't single turbo or built up this much. I feel so inadequate having to keep my foot out of it around here.

twin plate....period. no more bs'ing with slipping clutches. i've used a few diff ones and by far my favorite is between os giken and hks's. the os was a bit more rigid and harsh than the hks but both are still fairly easy to drive everyday. i have a os giken for sale that needs new disc.

I have heard of ppl bashing the spec as well. I have mine w/ 375 and 420 whp for 3 years and 10k w/ zero issues. It has a soft pedal feel but grabs a bit hard. I dont mind it @ all. It is the spec stage 3 +. G

spec 3+ = crap. Sorry G.
Just my results on a complete kit from SPEC with perfect break in and everything was adjusted fine. Started slipping around 500rwhp. Went to a ACT 6 puck and stock flywheel and HD PP and all was fine for awhile. I would get 20-30 passes at the track with 600+rwhp. Went thru 2 of those kits and just put in a XT PP and another unsprung 6 puck. So this is always drag raced. My suggestion for the best bang for the OP is a sprung ACT disk and a HD PP for street driving and a little drag racing. Should last you awhile.

Thanks, I just bought a sprung 6 puck and decided to stick with the HD PP. I figure I'm not going to actually make 500whp this year but should definitely be able to get 450-475whp range, which it looks like this set up should be good for. After I graduate from nursing school I plan to pick up a twin disc so I decided to go the inexpensive route for now. I just hope it's not as big a pain in the *** as some people describe it to be, lol.

I currently run a Mazbiz 4 puck solid centre with 1000kg pressure plate and holds 446rwhp with 2 step/launch control fine.
if it starts slipping i'm going to reinforce my firewall n get a stronger PP
