clutch for single turbo
i am getting ready to install the apexi rx6 kiton my 93 FD, my engine is not ported. and i was wondering what clutch do you guys recommend for me to get. i was looking at the ACTstreet/strip clutch or the 6 puck. i am not sure which model six puck but i was leaning towards the heavy duty instead of the extreme. my searches have provided me with info saying that the turbo can make 400rwhp, and the s/s clutch can hold 400lbs of torque. but i cannot find out how much horse power the clutch can hold. i am not sure how much torque the rx6 makes. if anybody knows i would appreciate it. i had a 6 puck extreme in my 97 gsx and i thought it was very streetable, but i am not sure if it is the same way with the fd. well just let me know what you think will work best. and if you think aother clutch is good "not to expensive though" then tell me why.
thanks

Unless you are going to do alot of drag racing, all you need is the ACT street/strip w/ the extreme pressure plate. You can get the 6puck, but you don't need it with your setup.
I wouldn't recommend the street/strip clutch because it's going to be able to handle all of the power once you start to abuse the car. I beat the crap out of my 6 puck in about 5-6K miles with my T-78. The Clutchnet 6 puck sprung hub is a very good clutch. The engagement is a little easier than the ACT solid 6 puck.
Dunno what your price range looks like, but I'm running the Bonez Street-Comp in my RX6 powered car...per RP recommendation.
They could recommend it because they sell it, but I'm guessing they *carry it* for good reason to begin with.
Just another offering.

My buddy smoked his ACT heavy duty pressure plate / street disc combo after 13 passes and a couple show off burnouts. He still has the stock twins. It's all about the way you use it
How many people have tried the twin disc clutches from HKS, OS Gilken or Cusco?

Same here...my Extreme does not hold up well to drag style launches. The pressure plate is fine, it's the OEM style full faced organic disk that blows. IF I had the funds to do the twin plate, I wouldn't hesitate. Dragon seems pretty happy with his setup.

I use a Tilton twin plate 7.25" "rally spec" clutch kit. I daily drive my car, the wear is very minor.
Mine is only not so good for the street because of the extreme light weight of the combination, if it is speced with drag flywheel or near stock weight the drivability would be %100, I have been using this set up for over 30 000km of driving and racing.
The only disk change I needed to do was because of a twisted input spline on the gearbox ! which caused the outer plate to take most of the load of the engine and wore the spline into a razor tooth edge making the clutch disk "noisy" excessive clunking, the inner plate would have been fine except that when I pulled the box out because it was twisted in two directions it bent the second clutch disk as it was sliding over the twisted input shaft !
Oh well now I have a nice decoration on my desk of a tilton twin plate disk which has virtualy no wear on the pucks after allot of use ! Sorry for the long story but I thought I would share my experiences of this set up, once again I fully recommend it, with a "normal" weight flywheel I do not think you could beat it this side of a full carbon/carbon unit..........If only I had the money !

I also use the clutchnet 6 puck. very nice holding power with minimal chatter
T&R racing is a dealer for clutchnet, they usually have a few in stock and thier prices are a little cheaper than if you buy off clutchnet's website.

i guess it's all on how you use your clutch. My friends TII smoked his Bonez street comp clutch, yet peole here with Double the horsepower, haven't had issues. I used a CF DF for the longest time and never had issues. Also i think the TQ of what you're putting out is more important than, the HP vs max power that the clutch is rated at.
well i have yet to install the turbo. it is just sitting in my room as a big paper weight. it seems like most people with the rx6 put down over 300 lbs of torque. so i guess i need a clutch that can hold over that.
Apexkw, I have the stock clutch with ACT pressure plate (40% I think). I'm also using the rx6 single turbo. While I don't do any drag racing or launching at all, the clutch seems to be handling the power just fine. The only thing is, I really don't think you're going to have an easy time making 400rwhp on a stock motor unless you boost 17psi or something, and even then that's pushing the envelope especially if you are using pump gas

I always though (or have heard) that the ACT clutches are the ones of choice for high horsepower rotary cars. This thread is interesting with all the different opions. I'm not single turbo yet, but put down good power with the stock twins and a CFDF clutch. Most people don't have much respect for the centerforce clutches, I think a lot has to do with break in and driving style.
i agree with you glass man. how long your clutch will last depends on how you drive, break in your clutch, and if it is installed correctly. i am looking at every clutch i can find and i am trying to get as much info about each one. like did you know that the blitz single clutch can be upgraded to their twin plate system. all you have to do is buy the extra parts. also around 400 rwhp is my final goal. i dont want to buy a clutch that cannot support my goal. that would be a waste of money. because then i would have to buy two clutches. thanks for all of your replies, help, opinions, and advice.
