clutch recommendations/experiences

I need more info to make a decision on a clutch. I have read numerous threads on clutches including the more recent Exedy Hyper Single thread. I will be running a 35r single, so I need a clutch to handle that amount of power. I may also run the quarter occasionally. At first, I was interested in the ACT Extreme PP with the street disc however I believe it will have too much pedal stiffness for my wimpy body to handle. So guys and gals give me your recommendations based on your experience and the following criteria. Please be descriptive with respect to b & c. Thanks to all.

a) able to handle the 35r
b) pedal pressure close to stock
c) drivability, smoothness of engagement
d) less than $1200

Twin plates are all of that but D. I have the Exedy Twin and it feels slightly stiffer than stock, slippable to an extent, and holds more power than 99% of us will ever achieve.

I've been running the Pineapple Racing clutch and love it. I'm making 400+rwhp, without a sign of slipping. As for pedal pressure....people don't beleive me when I say that I'm running a new oem pressure plate. Rob recomended I run this for my 450rwhp goal. CJ

thanks guys

CJ Am I reading this correctly? The only difference between your set up and stock is the clutch itself. So, everything else is the same, the pressure plate and the flywheel. How many miles have you been running this and have you been launching frequently?

I had the M2 clutch pressure plate and light flywheel with ~6k miles on it...then when I took the engine out to get it ported and the single I knew I wanted to make around 500rwhp and didnt want to take a chance on the clutch slipping while tuning. this was my main concern that id get steve out here and couldnt tune because of a slipping clutch. I wanst sure that the m2 could do it so I sent it to SPEC clutch because bryan at BNR told me to go there. I told them I was going to make 500rwhp etc and I wanted it to hold 550ft tq lol just in case and still be very streetable. Well thats what I got. I have ~3k miles on it now and I let it break in for 500. First time at the track I pulled a 1.8 60 by slipping it at 5500. I shift very hard and at high rpms quickly and its solid. It took about a month to get used to totally and I havent really stalled since because of the clutch. Whatever you have now they may be able to modify it like they did mine. they modified the pressure plate made a new disk and resurfaced the flywheel and I had it back within 5 days of sending it out. Not sure how much power im making but it feels like a 127ish trap speed

the act extreme is nice, i have it in my car w/ the ss disk. it handles over 450rwhp and does not slip. it is a stiff clutch, but not that hard. you could always upgrade your clutch master if you want different feel

Mike (sk8world),

I have been researching the Spec brand clutches too. I'm concerned about the puck style clutches damaging the flywheel. Do you know if the Spec II would suffice?

bty HorsepowerFreaks has the Exedy for around $107x. I assume Jason would match.

I did receive my single kit but am still waiting on the ASP SMIC group buy.

puck clutches do wear the flywheel more. also the shock from an unsprung hub, (even with sprung puck clutches ive seen it) can damage trannies/rears/axles a lot easier than an organic disk.
