cheap ebay turbo...

so i been running this T70 from ebay over a year now. i have seen this same off brand one make 600 on my brothers civic and its held up on a few other cars i know of. but this just means we been lucky so far...

my question is, has anyone taken one of these ebay turbos and have them upgraded or built to last? i could either spend 1000 on a new turbo. or 500-600 on building this one and might have the same, if not better quality. plus, i wouldnt have to change piping, manifolds, ect...

i think its an XS power one.

you know Corky Bell sells shanghi turbo's on his site said he's been testing them for some time now with out problems. so maybe your turbo is a lil better than you think.

ebay turbos are hit and miss. ebay manifolds are much less reliable.

i have seen these rattle them selfs to death also. a friend of mine said he had the same one, but just had the blades and shaft balanced and never had a problem.

I've seen some people have them rebuilt with garret parts for around $300 or so. This should make it as reliable as a garret. I went with a masterpower T70 which has been good so far. It was a re manufactured one for $400 + 50 for ceramic coated hotside. New they run something like $600.

I think someone had some masterpower covers that they used with china internals or something like that. The masterpower brand turbo's are actually pretty good.
