Catch tank on throttle body to charcoal canister

Can some one tell me what the catch tank bit bolted under the throttle body does?

It goes to a charcoal canister according to the diagrams? I have removed the metal fuel lines as part of my single turbo conversion and wondered if I can connect the catch tank directly to the pipe on the bulkhead going to that charcoal canister with a straight pipe or is the factory rubber ppe 'S' shaped for a particular reason?

Cheers
Lee
