Question Cast Mainfold Rust Prevention? Opinions Welcome!

I want to run a cast mainfold. The problem is that I live on a subtropical island and everything rusts like crazy and that is a major weakness of cast iron.

Is there a substance that I could apply or treatment that could be administered that would help and wouldnt melt away...

Any info appreciated.

Jesse

When the manifold is heated up as much as it is, it seasons it from rusting. Now given the fact that it will get minor surface rust it wont rust through.

Why don't you use a stainless steel manifold?

if you drive your car as a daily driver then the cast manifold shouldnt rust. if you dont drive the car often then you should get a stainless steel tubular manifold.

Jesse, I used these guys to coat my dp. They have more than a few different coatings, depending on what you want to do:

Thanks for the imput fellas.

Even a daily driver I think would have problems, I live next to the ocean, and there is no a point on this island that is less than 40 miles from the ocean. A week after new cars get here on the lot the brake rotors have a healthy coat of brown. If I were in Minnesota it would not be a problem but here it is unreal the way stuff rusts. I plan on driving it alot that is why I want the cast for durability.

Once again thanks for your help fellas.

I had RX-7's on Long Island, NY, close to the water, for a long time, and the cast-iron manifolds never had more than surface rust. My brake rotors would have the same problem that you're talking about.
