Can I use this?

I got this turbo from my bro. He said it came off of an 80's volvo 740. Can I use it on my 12a? I know I would have to custom make the exhaust. What else will I need? Where do I get the oil and collant lines from and will it work on my stock carb? Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

Really? What I was hoping for was maybe for someone who has done this to chime in. Maybe let me know where they took the oil and coolant lines from. What kinda mods to do to the carb... Maybe theres a member on here who can setup stock carbs to take boost... I don't expect anything for free. I obviously don't need a giant turbo since I am sticking to the stock carb. So maybe someone can tell me me why this turbo is too small.

I am well aware of the search feature. And I am well aware of other sites for resources. But what I want is opinions from the members of this forum on this specific question.

To me this looks like a Garrett T3 (not sure of exact specs) as shown on this page at the top:

http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/Engi...tification.htm

You may also want to check turbobricks.org for info about the turbo. Just knowing it's "a Garrett T3" (if I'm even right?) means the compressor side is probably acceptable (price vs. performance here!) for a 12A with moderate goals, but I'lll take a guess that the turbine side will be too small for your engine and will screw you over. Anyhow, I'm no expert on 12A engines or T3s on Volvos, but the exhaust side is usually too small when doing a piston to rotary turbo swap.

Any chance you can figure out more specs on the turbo by taking it apart and measuring stuff?

As for the coolant lines/fittings, I'd imagine that you might have to get creative with taps, dies, tubing benders, whatever... gonna be custom job.

Hey thanks for all the info! okay so I understand now what "too small" was suppose to mean. The turbo still has the tag on it with the serial number so I will do some investagating there.
