Arrow Bosch fuel pump ??(read please)

Hey guys I need some advise as to how to wrought a bosch pump correctly.

It looks to me like the best way to do it is to use a banjo fitting like the one on the stock secondary and run it through the return line, and use the feed/pickup tube as the return.

I will attach a few pics and the stock configuration from a 911 turbo w/banjo fitting.

I know some people just drill out the top nylon piece and use fuel tubing and clamp it on, but I thought I could try it a little differently and retain the check valve.

Why does the top nylon pieces have a small hole in it? Is it to relieve some of the pressure when the pump is running but no fuel is being used?

also does anyone have the correct part number for the sock filter?
And a good place to get it?

That banjo fitting is off the stock secondary fuel rail and is nearly the perfect size to go over the stock bosch outlet. I think the stock bolt was probly a m12x1, and the bosch outlet is a m12x1.5 so I was thinking if I cut the other end of the 90* line, and hose clamp it to the return wich is in the general area of were the 90* banjo fitting ends up it should work ok.

How did you guys that have upgraded to the bosch pumps do it?

Why even bother with the banjo fitting?
The banjo fitting was designed as a compromise connection for very tight fitting spaces.
I would throw that banjo fitting away and find a straight connector for better fuel flow.

What is your opinion on the check valve is it needed?

It just seemed odd to me that it would be there without serving a purpose, but the only issue that I could find was emissions related.

Is there a problem with a brief/ temporary lean situation right at startup if the check valve is not used?
Because of the system not retaining pressure? can/could this happen, and is it an issue at all?

It is a slightly odd fitting on the top of the pump and I don’t think that anyone makes any fittings that will just screw right in, in either a barbed or AN fitting. So I will have to make one if I go that wrought,

The check valve is to keep the fuel lines pressurized aft of the pump for easier starting. It has nothing to do with emissions on our cars.

If you chuck the valve, you car will start but may require a few more cranks than usual. A good fix is to install a one way check valve between the pump and the filter (i.e., external). If you do this, don't buy the Earl's check valves, they flow poorly and they don't hold pressure. I just did this and have since switched to an Aeromotive valve. I highly recommend this piece.

Gene, great write up. This has just given me loads of information of doing this upgrade. And I have just worked out I only have about half the parts needed.

No prob. Just a quick note, the parts list for the fuel system on my website needs to be updated. I eneded up doing something different - exactly like the PaintShop diagram.

I'll update the site tonight. I can e-mail you the current stuff as well in spreadsheet form.

Hey gene nice site. I agree with you about the fuel temp sensor, my solution was to make a block that to house it and two AN fittings.

That's a great idea. Heck, you could even use the AL block as a Y or "T" fitting (by adding one more port) for the return lines, if desired. You might want to go into production with those

As per Gene’s great idea instead of my 2 separate blocks. (Someone deleted my entire pic thread; I guess it was getting as big as amours.)






And this is what I ended up doing for my fuel pump, it is just a standard bolt I milled out and turned a barbed nipple on. I also used a std nut as a jam nut to secure it to the pump housing. The fuel sock is a stock ford part that I can get the part number for if so requested. The isolation material is an old piece of fuel tubing out of a seadoo jetski and I also bolted the hose clamps to the pump housing to avoid any slippage of the pump itself.

Works and sounds great, it is actually quieter than the stock pump from what I can tell and absolutely no vibration at all.

Because I did away with the stock check valve I did end up ordering both the earls and the aeromotive check valve, and continue using the aeromotive as gene had also recommended for its finish and fit into my system.

FYI, I used to use a bosch fuel pump and it failed on me after 50,000 miles

Gene do you plan on keeping your site up indefinitely?
It is a really great source of info for people that have even been around the block IMO.

I am glad you got what you asked for your car so quickly, IMO it was worth more and I think you could of held out for a while and got a lot more from someone that did his homework on the vehical.
