boost leaking out oil cap
boost leaking out oil cap
What would cause boost to leak out the oil cap. We tried different wastegate springs but it still did not change. Was working fine until this started about a week ago. Since that time we have not driven the car. Could it be the turbo or the motor? Could pressure leak out the turbo drain into the oil pan?
The setup is as follows;
60-1
rb holley intake
650 holley dp
tial 46mm(12lbs spring)

It sounds like you are pressurising the sump, this is caused by too large a side seal gap or a failed side seal...
There is no solution t this bare an engine rebuild if this is your problem.

BLING BLING BLING, Shane has an idea, how da fark do you know you are getting boost leaking out the oil cap? I have a theory here just i want to here how on earth you have diagnosed this problem before i go bleating out the answer to it.
thanks rice racing, i was taking a test pass and all of the sudden smoke fills the car. i pull over, open the hood and the oil filler tube is blown out of the housing. we hammer it back in do another test pass and sure enough at about 12lbs the smoke returns again. pull over same story. this time we spread the tube at the bottom of the filler tube and hammer it back in. we then rev the car till about 9500 while my hand is on the filler neck while the cap is off, and you can feel the boost coming out.
Ok, the only other thing it can be is a failed or failing rear (turbine side) oil ring seal, when this seal fails you will be able to pressurise the oil sump area as well. However with this failure you usually get A LOT of smoke out the exhaust as well...and I mean A LOT!
If you do not have this then I would say it is in the side seals that there is a problem, at least that is what I think may be the problem?
