Blown motor details

I've recently rebuilt the engine about 4 months ago. Basically put everything is new. I put a single turbo (GT35/40), PFC, intercooler. I was driving to a freinds early in the morning, usual cruising speed not hard at all, when I got there it shut off and I couldn't get it started. I left it at his house and when I came back it started but It was running real bad. It ran like a car runs when it's running extremely rich or like if it's a 6cyl car running on 5 cyl. I checked the coils, changed the spark plugs, spark plug wires, check for leaks and I haven't found anything. I checked the compression but I only did it in one chamber. I'm going to check it today for the other chambers to see if something is wrong there. Thanks for all you're help.

You probably blew an apex seal, thats why its running rich hard to start and lugs around at low rpms. That seal is not able to make compression and that side of the rotor is not making power so its loading up with fuel, its probably hard to start as well. Especially when hot. I know this because it happened to me.

I quick way to check it pull a plug on the rear rotor and also pull the fuel relay. Its Big and Green and its under the hood. I dont have a pic but maybe someone can post a pic. Then turn the car over and listen to the noise, You will listen for 3 distinct whooshing sounds. If one sounds a bit off key or different than the other 2 then your missing an apex seal, Hopefully you didnt ruin the turbo at the same time. I suggest starting with rear rotor first as its a likely culprit. PM me all your mods, who tuned the car and how much boost/power you have, as much detail as possible. Also how much fuel in the tank when it blew?

Details of Car

94 FD with Single Turbo GT 35/40 kit, Pettit intercooler, Power FC, most of the stuff is still stock waiting for my fuel pump, and 1600cc injectors. I checked the compression in each chamber they all registered the same there was no variation. It's holding vaccumm at 15 or 16. I checked the coils and spark and it's very weak. In about a 1/4 inch distance from ground the spark was very faint and redish in color. I'm thing about getting some aftermarket coils and I was wondering what everybody is running on their FD's. Let me know if you think this is the problem.

Your problem probably came from the fact that you ran a sinle turbo car on a stock fuel system.

if you're still getting that much vacuum when you do get it started, i doubt that anything is broken. you COULD have a cracked seal and still get good vacuum though. so if you do get it running, don't run it too hard until you do that compression test on it.

how much boost were you running on the stock injectors??

the stock ignition system should be ok for the amount of boost you should have been running and more than enough at idle. i would check all the ignition system wiring/connections/components and do that compression test before modifying anything.....

diagnosing the problem

I checked the compression and it seems to be alright, what had concerned me was how small the spark was and the color (red orange) instead of blue. The seems to be running way rich. That is the main symptom.
