Bathurst sp twins vs big single

Had a discussion with a guy who owned a rx7 sp and he was pretty convinced the bigger sp model twins rated for 650ps would always be a better option than a bigger single, regardless of the model (rb, type r, spirit r etc). I'm not entirely sure which path I want to take. Could pick up the twins for around $6500 aud but for that price you could comfortably get a full single set up with all the needed extras. Does going single ruin the low end torque completely or are single still okay for fun daily driving/weekends. Aiming for around 350/40₩ whp but want to possibility to produce more down the track.
I know this question has probably be asked many times but the sp twins can achieve up to 500whp on 20psi. So it's still very strong. Just financially it doesn't make as much sense
Cheers

Oh my.

The twins have their advantages. But to run them out to that power level you need more than pump gas. Big singles are going to lose out on low end. But modern singles like the BW8374 spool mighty quick and make plenty of power within the limits of pump fuel.

Either set up is going to be pretty expensive. With a single turbo you'll need: manifold, turbo, ecu, tuning, fuel, and other set up work.

If money is holding you back, then just leave it alone. It's a slippery slope.

Money isn't too much of an issue right now. Well when I say that I mean, I don't have too much money right now but being only 20 I don't have too many costs to worry about so I'm dumping between 500-1000$ into the car every month. And I'm trying to decide which route I want to take so the supporting mods I buy support the end game. E.g. if I'm going big single I'll go vmount where twins I'll probably go smic and cold air intake.

Also cops over here in aus are a real b**** so going single is a little bit more risky, but high risk high reward.

650ps is just the name, not any hp rating
Also, as everyone experience with adding bigger twins, the turbos aint the limiting factor, but the manifold is.

None of the twins on the market now will make 650hp or ps.

Go single and stop wasting your time with dreamers.

Yea, definitely going single at this point. Twins seem like a pain and doesn't really leave much room for pushing the limits.
Cheers

Dear FD3S co-member..
The price between being single and twins is quite different & its something you should take into consideration.

It's pretty easy to reach ~350on the twins.
There is many thread on the subject.

If i was in your shoes , i would push the stock twins as much as I can , up too 400+ if you can.

Than, when you think the twins have no more secrets for you, that you mastered them ! and you haven't crashed the car because anything past 350+ on the street is pretty deadly !
And your ready to install all those single turbo parts that you've been saving on the side. you can sell your 400hp twins setup to finance the rest of your single turbo conversion.

IMO , you get the best of both world, it's easier to save up & and you car is not on jack-stand.

+ there is always something that needs maintenance.

Or just go single....and you'll see

Got to love the simplicity of the single. Have fun pulling the twins out, took me a few hours with the tools I had on hand lol. But the engine bay looks much nicer now that I'm running a single Borg. Good luck !!

I will say this about the single, which you probably have already read, but the single set up will nickel and dime you along the way. Best to have a few bucks set aside for unexpected parts. And as always you'll need the parts at about 1 in the morning.

No stock-derived twin turbo setup will make anywhere near 650 hp.

A modern ball bearing single is always better than two twins from the late 80s.

Thanks for everyones inputs. Single was my original plan from the get go and this thread has helped me decide thats definitely the route to take. Although the plan is to work up to that. Buying and Installing basic things that will help me on single or twins. First few things will be Intercooler, full exhaust, Radiator, Upgrade the fueling, injectors, Ecu. Tune it at intervals along the way. at that point ill be running near 350rwhp (guessing those supporting mods could handle that power). then simply get the necessities for a single (BW S363 or EFR series or something along those lines).
