bad oil, how to tell?
I was getting these crazy ideas in my head again, they're just zapping through my skull *jackblack heh..
but yea I was thinking about rear mounted turbos, and using a seperate oil pump with its own resevoir instead of routing it all the way from the engine. If you were to do this, and give the turbo its own oil system, how would you know when the oil is bad?
With engine oil, that goes through the engine and a turbo, its exposed to blowby wich usually after a long long time gives the oil that blackish color, so I think.
Without blowby, and we're just factoring in heat here, how do you know when the oil is no longer productive? does the color change to black even if there is no blowby? or does the color change the same, but the 'feel' of the oil changes?
Keep in mind, im not discussing whatsoever a rear mounted turbo and its particular features/cons, just oil wear
thx
