Anying using CATS with SINGLE TURBO?

not to be nitpicking but, im starting to get tired of the
loudness/droning/smell of my Straight thru exhaust with Midpipe.

SO my question is..

Anyone have over 400RWHP using a stock cat??

ARE high flow cats significantly quieter than having just a Midpipe?
HOw about resonated Midpipe.. worth it??

thanks..

I have a single with a resonated midpipe and Apex'i N1 and I find it to be too loud for my taste. I was hoping throwing a cat somewhere in the line might help quite things down a bit but I'm just not sure how close it must be to the turbo in order to get enough heat to work properly.

I run a Racing beat Pre-silencer and an N1, Quiet, and I push 500+rwhp through it. I run a 3" Random Tech cat on my 97 Supra, on back to back dynos there was a ~15rwhp difference at ~420rwhp. Carl

I know when I was running my 3" DP, into my resonated 3" MP, and then into my N1 Dual tip, it was fairly loud. After putting in the silencers, is was very reasonable. Now, I'm running straight through 3.5" without a resonated mid pipe, and its LOUD. I plan on doing something, but no major plans as of right now. As it is, I drive the car about 2k miles a year. So, its not a big deal. I would put a resonated mid pipe, and some silencer(s) in the n1 and see how you like it. CJ

The best/quietest mid-pipe out there is the Pettit resonated midpipe. It has ceramic packing which holds up to our high egts better. I used to have it on my red FD and liked alot. I also used the SR motorsports resonated midpipe and it wasn't half as nice or quiet.

my cat got rid off all my raspiness and quiets the sound down quite a bit (bonez cat)

i like it and dont plan on taking it off, considering my car smelled horribly of raw gas without it, hopefully steve kan can fix that =)

Borla Xr-1 resonator & a stainless cat. Doesn't stink anymore & somehow (barely) passed emissions (fluke I think..) I can't comment on power as I've never been to a dyno but the *** dyno didn't detect any difference. Tjis replaced an rx7store muffled midpipe (straight through muffler).

I run a Racing beat pre-silencer to an N1. I love the tone. I can't really tell you how loud the exhaust is over 5k because the wastegate is soo f*cking loud when it opens that's all I can hear. But the drone is reasonable and I don't have a CD player to even cover it up. But then again I've always loved the sound of a rotary.

i run something similar to the borla XR1. just a 3 inch straight through pipe with a maganflow full muffler on it... quiet things down very very much... i would def recommend a full muffled midpipe instead of just a resonated one.

That has to be the most attractive catted, muffled, pipe out there! Very nice. I was thinking about doing the same (again non-ceramic cat) and muffler with 3.5" to match my DP and cat-back. Any suggestions on where to purchase the metalit <sp> cat?

Thanks,
Tony

Anyone else running the metallic cats? I've read a few people burning up the dynatech metallic one.

Thanks. I haven't seen any for sale that have a core larger than 4". If you're flowing enough to need a 3.5" midpipe, you'll probably want to find one of these that uses a 5" core. The one in the pic is a dynatech (I think.. it's been a while) It's basically the same as this:

http://www.davesport.com/cgi-bin/davesport/DCAT325.html

these guys sell one with a heat shield..

http://stores.channeladvisor.com/ver...ts/Items/7102?
Their eBay store has better pics..
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-Sta...QtcZphoto#pics

There have been reports of these getting too hot and burning up. I put mine as far back in the midpipe as I could because of this. No signs of problems yet. If it winds up going, I did score an unused 2 way 5" stainless core and a 1 way 4" core from a defunct UofM Future Truck program.
