4" exhaust questions

Has anyone built their own 4" midpipe and catback? Where did you get the pipe, did you use a bender or just cut at angles to make the bends.

I just did the DP, out of mild steel pre made bends. I got everything from www.arflo.com and the local truck shop.

I think im going to try and build the mid pipe and hack up the catback I have and retrofit 4" piping to it. Sounds like a fun project to me. How hard was the DP to fab up?

The DP was easier than I expected. Airflo sells bends that are 4in id on one side, and 4in od on the other side, they also sell short connectors that are 4in OD on both sides.

It was kind of like going back in time, when I used to play with Legos

Welds are a totally different story

LOL...good. i dont care if its loud at idle, and I definately want everyone to hear my weedwhacker from miles away at WOT. So it is drastically louder than the 3" hu?

I remember this MR2 messing with me, he did a ricer flyby. So I downshifted and FLEW past him and another car on the road. The other car wasnt expecting me to fly by and be at WOT. They swerved from the noise and the black streak when I passed. After I slowed down, they pulled next to me and gave me the bird

If 4 inches helps my performance, then let it be loud.

The beauty of the FC

From 4inch at the y pipe, it splits to two 2.35in pipes!

I was going to use that one as a "pre silencer", but with my dual setup on the FC; I might not need it at all.

Eric, I don't know if you remembered but I have a full 4" custom exhaust. It is loud as hell but I love it. I have never been pulled over for it, your pretty safe unless you drive like an ******* and draw attention to yourself. Here is what I did.

Bought 2 of these:
http://www.jegs.com/i/Magnaflow/642/12773/10002/-1

One of these:
Can't find it but its a 4' SS 4" diameter pipe

Then I got 2 90 degree 4" curved pipes (GET 4, I could have done better with 4 total)

Then weld it up. Oh yea, I also got 2 4" Vband Clamps. If you really wanna see it to take measurements and hear it in person go over to my house and check it out. My dad would be glad to show it to you.

Peace man,
Phil

If you want to keep the noise down, run a dual muffler system.

Its not as practical on FD's to route, but I quite eaisly made a full 3" exhaust, splitting to two 3" mufflers on my FC. You could easily just make the front section 4" and the rea duals 3.

My car is very quiet at idle, a little too quiet hehe

Thats one method of baffling the sound without restricting flow.

And yes, thats a cat. 3" bonez....

Eric, there is a truck shop down on Hall St. They've got all the 4 inch tubing/Bends you'll need and much cheaper than anywhere else. I got all my 5 inch tubing there and the old man really hooked it up.

What did you run for mufflers? Im having trouble finding 5" mufflers. Magnaflow makes a long one, and a few diff bullet types, ive actualy started to look at bigrig stuff such as the stacks they sell at airflow systems..

ive ran a 4"dp all the way back to the 4"in/out muffler.. wow loud is all i can say that lasted a few month till i changed it on my t2. magnaflow was the muffler i used was real solid and held up fine. I bought a 2nd oval muffler for the middle but ran outta ground clearence to fit it under there. After all that i went back to RB exhaust quite happier. On a side note i didn notice a lil faster power gains but for the noice not worth it.
