How NOT to port your engine

ok so I bought this engine from another club member, now he said that the engine starts, but doesnt stay started. Cool I thought, no big deal, I'm going to get it rebuilt anyways. So I took my new blown engine to Lucky 7 (I dont recommend anyone else work on your car but them. Sry to the other shops, but these guys are GREAT) Anyways, I get a call to come down and check out the engine(never good). So I get there and I find out why the engine wouldnt stay started. Also found out it was JUST REBUILT!!!!!!! So this guy most likely knew what was wrong with the engine and did what he could to get some money back in his pocket. So here are the pics so in the future some idiot doesnt over port .......

middle

front

rear

I was a little curious as to why i found oil in my intake manifold....now I know

ha, im surprised there wasnt a thread on here somewhere bragging about how big their ports were. I would take it right back to them, they should have known better than to do something like that no matter who it was

yeah i was thinking about that, but I would rather just put him on blast and not let anyone else get screwed, his forum name is JDMfc3, even has a shop in temple city, so i thought hey, a guy with a shop wouldnt screw someone. However chances are he has done it before, so again, i would rather just put him out there. But I gotta say, kinda pissed that I cant use them even if i wanted, waste of money. AND while i forgot to take pics, the rotor housings where all warped and chipped, either need to resurface or buy new ones, gonna buy new ones. I thinking about taking the bill to him and see if he will make good. If he does I will let everyone know

Sorry bro that sucks I been screwed before.
but I have to say talk about over porting.
I never even thought the ports could even go that big without hitting a coolant passage
but I do have to say that grinding more surface area away "DOES NOT IMPROVE PROFORMANCE" but that is just in my experience. but I could be wrong
sorry dude

Well, I'll learn from your expeirance, Never buy a ported motor, that wasn't ported by a know professional. I plan on doing a half bridge half street port 12A on my FB eather next year, or year after, I'll do the streetport myself with a template, but I think I'll have a pro do the bridge for me. do they make bridge templates, or do you just have to know where and how? but I do have access to a drill press, and could probably do it. I've never ported a rotary motor. I did port my turbine inlet, and I ported the head of my lancer back in the day. I'm gonna match port my FB's intake soon as I get a new gasket. Probably gonna rock the stock ports on the T2 for awhile. Its alot more work to pull the engine on the T2 only takes 45 minutes to get it out the FB. I could possably get it out in half hour if I hustled.

hopefully he didn't butcher the rotor housings equally as bad. at least irons aren't too expensive or hard to come by.

uhg, what the **** is that?

the combined main/aux ports might actually work if you could cram enough air in there, but the drilled bridge is just retarded, not to mention the tooling gouges on the iron.

This was pictured a couple years ago as a pair of ported irons for sale on the forum. Check out the grinder mark across the face too. As for the drilled bridge, some do this and call it a cheese port, lol...

ROFL drill port FTL. What do they think they're accomplishing by doing that?
