Voted for midpipe. No need to replace...set it and forget it. + if you really don't need any emissions...why bother with a high flow cat?

agreed. just make sure you have the supporting mods to keep your motor from popping.

but if you dislike a loud car go with a resonated midpipe

You can't just slap in a full exhaust and be done. If you still have the stock DP then your fine. Make sure you do your research on it. Otherwise, i say midpipe for full potential.

ad far as the downpipe goes it was listed as an aftermarket down pipe. if any of you know the car or the owner it used to belong to ccanepa50 on the forms. So I'll shot him a pm hopefully hes still around an can let me know what down pipe it has. Thanks for the replys I was planning on going with a midpipe just needed some reinforcement.

Read about "Boost Creep" and porting the waste gate on stock twins. Also be aware that with a mid-pipe, the exhaust will typically stink and be loud enough to make a Mosquito move to Tijuana.
It's also helpful to get a standalone when removing emissions.

I *really* hope English is not your primary language.... your first post was... yeah.

If you are just starting to modify your car for power (radiator, DP, AST don't count as power mods imo) then a full exhaust is NOT your first step... Before removing all exhaust restriction you need to be sure you will be able to control your boost, provide adequate fuel for the boost, and tune your fuel maps to compensate for/take advantage of this change.

Please read the Archives/FAQ before doing something without knowing the ramifications of your action.

A popular choice is a resonated midpipe.

Not necessarily... if you're a newbie and get false information leading you to believe that you can just throw a free flow exhaust on an otherwise stock car then that 100 bucks may well quickly turn into $2,000-$3,000 for a rebuild because you overboosted and blew your motor...

If you're properly modified then a midpipe is a no brainer...

restrictor plates also help to minimize boost creep

I voted high flow cat. The smell of an un-catted turbo rotary smells terrible and you wind up stinking like exhaust for the rest of the day. Not exactly a sexy smell - especially if you like women.

^ Mine doesn't smell bad unless you bask in the exhaust... but that would be the same with any cat/MP

Go for mp! I removed my cat and installed all the block-off plates last month and I must say it was all worth it! I'm running megan mp with Trust power extreme titanium-R cat-back and at WOT the sound is freaking awesome and so is the power improvement (with good a tune)! Removing all the emission crap also got my car to run smoother and unlike before the car rarely back-fires now.

However like the others stated, you'll need to take care of other mods first or you'll end up blowing your lovely rotary engine !

cool thanks for the added information, as mods on my car it has a aftermarket dp, apexi commander ecu, larger intercooler on stock mounts spec 99 turbos, I know that I need to get a turbo timer/boost controller right now I plan to remove the a/c and still up in the air about the power steering, I have some what of an idea of the "reliability" mods that need to come off to allow the car to function with a less restrictive exhaust setup. I was mainly gearing this question towards sound vrs performance. So thank you for your humble opinions and ideas I'll definitely do the research you guys recommended.

some people dont understand, if you get a mp and get a block off plate or restrictor plate, you lose hp, it would pretty much be like having the cat back in but louder.

yeah but come on. are we suppose to cater to idiots or provide the right answer?

oh yeah i was wrong though. a RESONATED mp is a no brainer. a regular mp is silly unless its a race car.

my initial set up was a regular mp with apexi n1 dual and simply put it wasnt streetable. it would make a harley at full bore sound quiet.

Before removing that cat like others have said be sure you do more research. It is not that easy of a "slap it on and go" mod. And a boost controller will NOT help with boost creep. You will also need to have the wastegate ported to properly run a mp. Personally I run a resonated mp on my car and would not even think of installing just a straight mp for reasons listed above. I agree with getting rid of the cat, but do the suppourting mods first, then the cat replacement IS just a slap it on and go thing (right after re-tuning the boost controller that is)...

yeah i dont have restrictor plates and never did and i dont get creep. i dont know why but i am loving it. but i agree with you. why would one open the exhaust only to restrict it. i have gotten into some heated debates about this very thing. for lack of a better word it seems dumb.

The right answer. From his registration and own admission he's new to the car and doesn't fully understand the possible consequences. That doesn't mean he's an idiot unless once warned, he screws it up anyway. In this case the right answer is that a midpipe is fine, as long as supporting mods are in place and he's OK with the stench and noise.
