installing these lug nuts got to 75lbf - then the below happened - whats the best way to remove? split the other side with a chisel?

any help would be great

Wow! Was this within the suggested torque rating?

 

Maybe you set the torque wrench to 75 kg/m haha. Either way those lugs are not very good quality.


I would take them off with a large alley socket, if the lug bends more then JB weld the lug to a crappy socket or something.

I wouldn't hammer on it anymore for fear of damaging the lug threads or something slipping and busting the wheel.

I would start by trying to untorque it. If that crack runs down into the engaged threads there should be almost no resistance.

what brand nuts are those. and what torque were u going to stop at 80?

 

Not to ask the dumb question, but are you sure you didn't set the wrench to 75lb/in ?? I know I broke several 1/4 inch drives that way one day 'cause I was tired and didn't notice the distinction at first...

I'm going to use that trick to fix the (completely) stripped out screws on my side view mirrors. I'll just throw a bit of plastic wrap over the tip of my phillips head, making a mold.

 

great help ill see what i can do tonight the bad thing is they wernt cheep, and they were from a decent seller. I think it was cheep soft ali (all Show and no GO). I didnt even get to the specified torque. tryin to claim my money back from seller. any one know were i can get decent lug nuts from?

I ordered the Monstermodz 20 lug nuts for my RX7 about 2 weeks ago and then the key arrived today. Installed the first nut and got the torque to 70lbf. The nut has split straight through and is now lodged into my 2 grand Kahn 3 piece rims! 95lbf is what it needs to be this product is not street safe (not strong enough made out of really soft aluminium) if I had been driving and this happened I could have totalled my car or even killed someone. Whoever you’re suppler is in China or Japan wherever the nuts came from I would stop dealing with them. I’ve attached two pictures for you to see. And I would like to send the product (nuts & key) back to you and receive a full refund. I have the receipts from pay pal if you need them.

If you haven't already gotten them off wrap a cloth or papertowl aroudn the lug key and push it in there. The exxcess room should be taken up by the cloth or paper towel and help it to turn back out.

Got it off decided on making a sleeve, and slotting it over the nut. worked a treat.

check out the damage on the nut (pics), just shows that even big performance stores sell crap parts too
