RE-Amemiya wins the GT300 SuperGT series

RE-Amemiya secured the drivers and team championship last weekend at Fujii speedway.

So here is a big congratulations to them. And well done, for beeing a private team. All rotary fans should be proud.

FINALLY!

Can anyone recall if he has ever pulled that off before? I honestly think this is the first time the team has done it. If he can sneak a few more in there maybe Mazdad will pay attention and start backing him or field there own team.

i don't think they've won til now. this is taken from the SuperGT website, as quoted by Isami Amemiya after the race:

I'm filled with emotion, that's all. In the ten years I've been involved in GT racing, I've never thought about winning the title. I'm so thankful to everyone, the drivers and the mechanics. When I saw Yamano spin out, I thought it was over. At the end, nobody had any idea what was going on.... Later on the podium with so many spectators around who were happy for us, it made me truly thankful.

yes, it's an N/A 3-Rotor.

click on "teams and drivers" then scroll down to the GT300 class and it's No. 7.

This is so great. I remember seeing them a couple years ago at the first US JGTC in cali and he wrecked w/ another car (black viper i think) and got a DNF.
I'm so glad to see the amemiya team win.

A great accomplishment for rotaries! Hopefully they only add some weight and don't just ban rotaries to keep things even.
I believe thats how they do it in JGTC, the winner adds a little weight to their car to even things up. Something like that. Think thats a race by race thing and not just the seasonal champion.

they shouldn't ban them. rotaries have been racing for years but haven't ever posed a serious threat of absolute technical domination.
