WOW, this still isn't complete.

Great thread, and as I was reading was thinking "cool, results will be in by page 5"...NOT!

Hang in there David!

Bumpity.

I'm doing this process now (wheel wells get second coat tomorrow) and would love to hear it all worked great in the end...provided there is an end...

Okay. Did the Quiet coat, 3 coats, in rear wheel wells. Much more than 3 coats in trunk, underneath the storage bins, and the whole floor. Then added Brown Bread (like Dynamat Extreme) in same areas.

Then I drove the car.

Yes, it was a bit quieter, no dB meter to back it up, but a moderate change for the better. But not worth the time & expense.

Then I remember I had some carpet pad left over from when they finished my house, so for kicks I cut it up into smaller pieces and put them in the trunk, where the spare tire was. Then I cut them into fitting strips and covered the entire trunk & storage bin area (wheel, hatch cover, hatch floor, removable trunk barrier & storage bins not yet put in) with carpet pad.

Car was noticable quieter. More change than the Quiet Coat & Brown Bread brought. Simple carpet padding, cheap, light, cut to fit. What gives?

I'm going to Home Depot tomorrow to get some more padding. It may mean that I give up some or all or my trunk area for quietness, but who cares?

Yep, it was. Simple carpet padding. I'm looking into some acoustical foam rubber tomorrow, might be better yet.

I still do recommend Brown Bread with foam/padding over it, but I have a hunch that the Quiet Coat doesn't do squat. Plus it's expensive.

David, you still there? Have you come to any conclusions?

Final impressions:

Get foam rubber instead of regular carpet padding. Carpet padding give off a bit of chemical odor. Foam rubber doesn't, sound insulates same.

Brown Bread works so-so, is a bit laborious to install, messy, and also gives off a tar-like smell, especially when warm.

I don't think that Quiet Coat did anything good. Was the most expensive as well.

I would be interested to hear from other Quiet Coat users, if it worked for them or not. I have come to the conclusion that it's a scam, owner buys drums of it cheap, then slaps Quiet Coat label on drum & charges 7x what it cost, builds a nice-looking website touting the product, testimonials, but no hard data to back up claims. But that is just my unscientific, yet street-wise opinion.

Like a mattress cover. Here's a website of a local foam rubber shop.

Yes, I am still here! As posted before, I've been waiting to receive more product from the Quiet Coat guys. It took two months longer to receive than expected but I now have it.

So, cross your fingers, I'm now trying to reschedule with Fifth Gear to apply the final two coats. I'll keep you posted!

I have the material in. Unfortunately I've had the car back in the shop (transmission stuff) and I've been swamped. Sorry for the delays but I will finish this up and post the results.

I'm interested too in how it will turn out so I'll do my best.

Back from the dead!

Okay, I'm now back!

After a brief reprieve (okay, about 8 months!) I'm now ready to move on and complete the third phase of this project.

I have received the additional Quiet Coat material and on this Saturday (June 19th) will be applying the undercoating to the car. I'm renting a lift for the morning from a local body shop and am going to do the work myself. I've had much difficulty in arranging for someone else to do the job. I'll certainly take pics and post results for you.

Sorry for the delays in this. Most of the delay was because of problems caused by the shoddy mechanical work done on my car last summer that had to be fixed but some of the delay was because of me - at any rate, I'll now complete this and post the results. Hopefully, this project will turn out to be worthwhile and the results will be useful for all of you.

FYI - I tested the Quiet Coat material yesterday with my air gun and it sprays great. Last time I had much difficulty in getting the prodcut to work, but this doesn't appear to be a problem now.

Will keep you posted on mu progress this Saturday.

Alrighty then.

I put on the exhaust to improve performance (which it did) but I want the car as quiet as possible, hence the Quiet Coat project. FYI - I do plan on putting on a quieter, high performance exhaust soon (not for the neighbors but for me!).

For those of you following the project, I was able to complete the undercoating yesterday. I'm on the way to the airport now for a business trip, but I will post pics of the process as well as results this week.

Can't wait to see if it made a difference.

Looking forward to the results David.
Thanks for taking the time to document and quantify the benefits of your work

You probably wont be able to upload any pics, that function has been on the frits for a while, and hasn’t worked for like 2 months know. I think they are trying to reduce load on the servers.
