1993 Mazda Rx-7 with an aftermarket alarm system. While the factory alarm is still working (I assume), an aftermarket alarm is also installed that tends to go off while I am driving for no apparent reason. In fact, I can see the armed light for the aftermarket system blinking as I am driving. The key FOBs dont work either and the alarm is pitiful (very low volume).
Question, are most of you just sitting with Stock Alarms or have you added a second (more reputable) alarm system to your car?
My local installer suggests, cleaning up the clutter and gutting the aftermarket unit. Thoughts?
i'd take the advice of your local installer.
Most alarms are now just patched in with those crappy T clamps and wires are half assed connected as they get Paid by the install.
Get a guy that is paid by the hour and he will sit there til the cows come home to fix it!
I'd do away with a crappy aftermarket install, and get a new one done from bottom up by a reputable installer. Either that or track down an OEM Mazda Keyless entry system.
Well I found a good shop that hacked the faulty system out. Previous owner should have sorted this out. Here’s what we found....🤦*♂️🤦*♂️🤦*♂️ I am lucky I never had a fire under my dash!
Best money I ever spent. Wires everywhere and best thing about it was after removal my door locks and power windows started functioning much stronger.
Tell me about it. Took 2-3hours to remove the cheap a$$ system, wiring, paging and additional door lock actuator system. Added benefit my Windows now roll up much much faster. I thought I had to service/replace the motors.
Im still in disbelief. Also removed old stereo setup and non working fog lights. My local guy took one look and said ****** yank it all!
Now working on removing the interior cf trim glue on pieces. Unbelievable.

How did it slow down your windows? Was it stealing voltage, or was something else going on? Just curious, because that seems like a weird symptom.
Goo-gone does a pretty good job of removing old glue, if it's the sticky kind. After that you just need to scrub forever to get the residue of the goo-gone off.

I agree...But it would seem so. After the “operation” everything picked and started functioning much better.
Working the trim now and almost done you are correct with Gooff. Will update in trim related thread.
