Fixing to finally get cold for a spell here in Texas. Might have to do a little freezer fillin and sausage stuffing and give the car a break this weekend. Tough decisions on the SMIC coming up. If your not looking to go FMIC "front mount" or VMIC "vertically" and you want to keep the battery under the hood it seems you either settle for a small one (not much better than stock), pay $$ (modify stock duct and hose) or pay $$$ (mid size drop in, upgrade elbow) or pay $$$$ ( oversized, custom duct, upgrade elbow, relocate batt). Prob for my needs it should be one that is a step up from stock, why get one that is the same size, right? Where is the middle line, drop in, in this car? Hum

greddy or blitz SMIC. they are similar circumference as the stock IC, but about twice as thick. you can even make them look OEM with good ducting and some flat black paint...
I think this work well for DD, autocross, and maybe a small/light track event.

Any reason why not going front mount? There is a greddy front mount unit for like $690 that looks great.

Just keep the stock IC and add meth injection. It is simple, cheap, and is like adding a bigger intercooler. Too many positives not to add meth injection to help protect your car for what your trying to do.

the greddy FMIC kits completely block the front bumper opening.

they're great for drag racing, but if you do a track event you're going to have issues getting enough air to the radiator.

Sorry. Realized I sold the old one that was in great shape. Just unboxed the one I still have. Previous owner chopped part of the edge for clearance for a larger intake. Still works, not pretty on the side though. Could still be polished up easily. I don't have couplers to include. $375 shipped due to appearance. The piece cut off is not where pressurized air flows, it's just an end plate. Aside from this, fins are good but a little dirty.

Back from hunting and I am glad I have some folks looking for a SMIC for me but I have to hold out a bit longer for the right one. Thank you for the offers so far but I just think this car needs a nearly new one that is lost is someone's shed somewhere sitting in a box that is just about to be found! Hello, where art thou!

Have you check the CX Racing unit? They have a large SMIC unit that looks pretty decent.

I'll have to check into them.

Anyone else have any feedback on them?

The design look pretty good, very thick and looks like it fits right in. I searched for reviews but couldn't find anything; looks like the majority of people just go front mount with a big radiator to compensate for the lack of airflow.

but i cant find much information on it. not sure if they even still sell it or if its worth the money.

I got the same intercooler in my wife's FD, hate the ducting arrangement. Was thinking of making a temporary mold and making a proper duct out of FRP. Would you be interested in one as well?

I do have a PF SMIC like new. It was brand new when I bough it and I did have it on my car when I rebuild my motor. Now is out because I am going with a FMIC Greddy. The price is $500 including the duct and believe me it is worth every penny on its condition. 93' R1 BLack on Black 19K original mile bolt on 350HP build-image-2331307198.jpg Sent from my iPhone using RX7Club

I'm wondering if it will fit with the Apexi intake and how it turns into the side of the cooler? Hum

some people have done it before. You just have to adjust the placement of the intakes a little
