I have my front mounted intercooler in place and now am in need of some aluminum ic piping. Any recommendations on who to use? Where to buy? Certain piping positions? etc.. Let me know how I should go about this. Thanks

I've been to a few that is only willing to use steel piping. I am wanting aluminum.

^ exactly. I guess I'll just order piping from ebay and do a mock-up and mark the piping up and carry it to someone to have it welded. Anyone know exactly how many different bends/the radious of bends/and how long of straight tubing will be needed? Who knows!? You need to get the IC installed, figure out how you want to route the IC pipes, and then make some measurements. Then you'll know what you need.

 

It's already installed but there are a couple different ways I could do the piping. I guess it's like putting a puzzle together. I was just wondering what others that have a front mount had to use to get the job done. I don't want to cut myself short and have to sit on my butt another week waiting for more pipe to come in.

 

Well, most people just get a "kit" which comes with the proper piping. For those that create their own piping; they measure out what they need, order a few 90 or 180 degree bends, cut the piping to fit the routing they need and then have someone weld the pieces up.

 

Don't know that I've seen anyone try this, but you could prototype it with PVC.

Hack it up, glue the ends together. Doesn't have to be perfect, it's just a proof of concept.

When it all fits, glue it up solid. Don't forget you would need to put some non-glued joints in the pipes so you can pull it out of the car.

I have some nice 2.75" diameter aluminum pipes with mandrel bends, flared ends, various lengths and bend angles for $75 on this forum. Would be great for such a project. I just finished the pipes for my setup and had all these pipes left over!

Crispy did that with his CWC install. He actually drove the car some short distance and turned the PVC into modern art.

 

ebay has some good deals on this sort of stuff. Also Wade is selling a bunch of left over piping from his IC project here on the forum.

and recommended the same to Wade. The piping was of good quality at a good price.

 

I agree, the pipes were good for the money, and a lot less expensive than ordering bends piecemeal from a place like Baker. My biggest problems were the $30 shipping charge and the fact that they couldn't answer questions about the sizes and bends in the pipes, another reason why I had to buy so much more than I needed. They are advertised as polished, but they are only roughly polished - looks like someone spent about 2 minutes on each pipe. Still, these are minor complaints and I'd definitely recommend them to someone else doing a piping project.

Burns is the most expensive/worse value IMO, although their collectors are very nice. I would use woolf Aircraft instead. Generally speaking, the tighter the bend the greater the efficiency loss.
