where are these screws (mazspeed.com) steeringgear

Ok, i've read through old threads, i've read the directions on mazspeed.com, and i've even located most of the tools i'll need, but i couldn't figure out where all the other screws are? there are suppose to be three adjustments, the big 40mm is easy to see, but besides that one, I only see three other mounting screws on top, and a plastic nutish thing on top. all other hardware seems to be used to mount the steering box to the frame. anyone have pictures of these adjustment screws?

Okay, if your's is the same as mine, here's whatcha do;

Very important! Grind the beveled edge off of the large socket that you are going to use. It is almost impossible to get that one loose without rounding the corners off even without the bevel on the socket.

Okay, once that is done then get that large nut broken loose. If you manage to do that then you are home free. Once it is loose, then hold it while you turn the next largest nut (mine has a series of holes drilled into it). I used a hammer and cold punch to turn it. Tighten it about 1/8 of a turn, then retighten the large nut and take it for a drive.

This will be a trial and error type of thing. If its still too loose, then tighten that inner nut (the one with the holes in it) another 1/8 turn. If you end up getting it too tight then your steering will loose its self-centering properties and will quickly wear out completely.

I got lucky the first time I tried this. Took it for a drive and there was damn near zero freeplay, but not too tight. I used to have about 2" of freeplay, which was a really exciting setup, but not too practical. Now, when driving down the road small adjustments are almost done telepathically! This changed the entire feel of my car. By far the best thing I have done to it as far as improving the driveability and fun factor...

mine has what looks like a flat head screw in the middle of the big nut. I tightend that and it tightened up the steerting slighting. The other nuts are all the same size. There is the threaded part which has a series of holes in it with that flat head screw in the middle of it but it just looks like its the thread for the 40mm nut. Still a little confused. Can you help clear me up?

I've tightened mine and got all the play out. My problem is that to get the play out, I have to have the preload too tight. The preload is where you guys seems to be stuck.

Read two post above carefully. You loosen that big nut, then it will leave the centre of the nut (which had the holes drilled in it) free to turn. This is the preload nut. It isn't really a nut, and that's where the confusion is. You use the punch as per above to tap the preload "nut" tighter. Inside the preload "nut" is a lock nut and shaft. You loosen that too. You tighten the preload a little, then take the play out with the shaft, tighten the locknut, then tighten the really big nut. I found that it worked better if I moved the steering whell back and forth so you could feel when the play was gone.

If the steering doesn't centre when you come out of a corner, the preload is too tight.
