Malloy Mazda Reman
I have only good things to say aboue Ray @ Malloy Mazda. Great guy to deal with.
However, I just bought a Mazda Reman motor from Malloy and had it torn down and streetported by Pineapple Racing. Joel, from Pineapple said that after inspecting the engine internals, he found that they reused rotor bearings and a front hub that was grooved. All of which had to be replaced with new parts. The grooved front hub would've caused leaking...

Were the parts in question out of spec by a lot?

Malloy has nothing to do with rebuilding the motors or their quality, they are offering you the same reman motor which all Mazda dealers have access to. Malloy just offers parts at a better discount than most dealers...

Talk to Ray though, I ordered my reman from him and I'm having it ported at KDR. The engine was $2240 with the gasket set and shipping both ways, if you care.

Pineapple is the best place for NEW engines by far. All the others reuse old parts.

go to http://www.malloyautomall.com/ for Malloy's web page and contact information.... I agree...
Ray Crowe is the best
... I bought a reman last October from him and he treated me right... Weather or not everthing in the motor was new is unknow to me as I didn't crack the case.... However, since install I've not had a single leak and performance has been outstanding... In fact, I smoked one of the brand new BMW M-3's
a few weeks backs... Check the "Kill" section for details Cheers,
Rich

I find it interesting a shop would question "used bearings". All shops reuse old parts if they are in spec. Look at an older Racing Beat cataloge and read what they say about "used" bearings. If they are in spec they tell you NOT to change them. I have seen "used" rotor bearings go over 300,000 miles.
As far as mazda remans the quality of the Malloy remans are very good.

All the fuel lines. FPD(fuel pulsation damper), all coolant lines, spark plugs and wires, vaccum hoses (if not already done, do it while the engine is out), clutch and flywheel (stockers work great or an upgrade, now is the time to save money on labor, again if not already done), check your kmnock sensor and see if it is gooped down the side of the engine,(very common),OMP lines(SS or stock, now is the time) ALL crush washers for oil and fuel, and coolant fittings.Engine mounts, POLY or stock, now is the time, Ask Ray about the housings, not sure what he sells them for but never hurts to ask.
Ray is the ****, i dealt with him when i had my shiop in Hawaii, NEVER had a screwed up order, and engines got to me within a week and for a couple cents more than 2k. All my remans I got had little issues with them. Ray took care of EVERY one of them at NO cost to me or my customers. He is the man!! As others have said, Malloy has absolutley no control over the QC on the remans. They are farmed out to different companies every few years, so no real QC can stay in full effect as it keeps changing hands

Here is the parts department number at Malloy Mazda. 703-490-8263
Ray and John are very helpful and know what they are doing. I order parts from them at least once a week. I have a drawer full of reciepts to prove it.
