Aspec Tuning still in business?

Is Aspec Tuning still in business?

I've contacted me for about a week through phone, email and voice messages.

No call backs or email responses what-so-ever.

Even if they are still in business can you stand to wait 6 months for your order once you get someone? Check out the A-Spec vendor section. It sounds like Sean has some other things going on right now. A-Spec makes some nice stuff but you'll have to wait for it.

smg944 05-12-11 08:24 PM

yea aspec is still in business. just give them some time they will get back to you. they do make great stuff i think its well worth the wait.

Sean is difficult to get a hold of, but he pulls through on his promises. He sourced me a harder-to-find turbo at the time no problem, and even honoured a price he shouldn't have after finding out it had changed from the supplier. A+ in my books

TheAsset 05-13-11 01:43 AM

Time is money, and communication is key.

jamaalsmith 05-13-11 02:38 AM

Aspec is awesome. Couldnt have done my build without the turbo they sourced me. Communication was pretty good too.

Zero R 05-13-11 09:20 AM

Yes, I will say I do have some pretty serious issues going on right now that honestly I wouldn't wish on anyone. (and I'm sure some of the vultures on here are loving it) Yes some people are waiting long, some because of me trying to do the right thing and wait for better product. Some because product simply isn't available ie TiAL housings for 42R's, When you're out you're out on those, until TiAL makes more. Every shop on here has issues and some are dishonest with the way they portray they are golden while claiming others are not. Dealing with with trying to keep someone alive and trying to keep this place functioning is definitely not helping at this time and there are days I put serious thought into closing. Half the reason I'm not posting on here much anymore is I simply do not have the time. All that said some people are stuck waiting others are not, not everyone is waiting months as some would like to portray.

Had Sean make me 2 kits and A 4 inch exhaust. If he ever closes down it will b a great loss to the rotary community.

thewird 05-13-11 08:34 PM

I've owned my 500R-SP kit for 3 years I think? Only used the turbo for 2 of those years and then went to the 6765 using the same manifold.

I abuse the hell out of my car at the track with 1750-1850*F EGT's pre-turbo for hours on end. For the first year, I also ran a turbo blanket and wrapped the downpipe (I got rid of them after that first year). This abusive heat led to warping, cracking, and flaking of the manifold, turbine housing, and downpipe which had to be constantly repaired. Basically, by the end of last year my manifold was in terrible shape. I also wanted to sell my turbo setup to a good friend of mine who I was rebuilding his engine as the first engine I ever rebuilt.

I shipped the manifold to Sean who was fully aware of what I have been doing with my car and why I never sent the manifold before when it first started giving problems. Sean decided the manifold was no longer repairable and made me a completely NEW manifold honoring his lifetime warranty despite the above mentioned. Yes, I did have to wait a few months for it but it did eventually come as promised. So big thanks to Sean at A-Spec for delivering on his warranty.

We just got the car started early this week and my first engine ever ported and rebuilt seems to be running so far (lol). The abused 500R is still running fine with just a new turbine housing. The thread is over here if anyone is interested...

A-spec 500R kit here, and I absolutely love it. WELL worth the wait! :icon_tup:

RX72NR 05-18-11 02:34 AM

Sean @ A-spec is helping me with my project currently. No complaints.

Sean, as you know I am one of those who is stuck waiting for a long time but I have been quiet patient and cooperative during this period, because first of all I think you're an honest guy going through a hard time and secondly you have nice kits and reputation in this forum/community which I am also part of. However, it cannot be one-sided and open-ended with no deadline.

I have tried sending an email to 3 different addresses of yours in the last few days but they all bounced back. Then I checked your website but it doesn't work (address/server cannot be found). Then I left a message on your answering machine but I don't know if you'll receive it on time or respond to it on time cause I also called an hour ago but no answer.

So I decided to post in here because as you know there is a deadline for me and this time I do not want to miss it! I expect your utmost attention to finalize this transaction!

Feel free to pm/email/call me or reply to this post asap.

Please don't make a comment with generic statements just for the sake of it. No one in this thread is flaming A-Spec / Sean, if anything he got compliments so far. And I'm one patient customer trying to get in touch with Sean asap.

I don't need to run a small business to understand the difficulties (which I believe are not relevant in my case) and Sean doesn't need to buy a turbo kit to understand the customer's side of things.

The man has skillz! Definitely worth the wait.

muibubbles 05-28-11 04:56 AM

I bought my car from sean, was more then i expected. ive read some stories where seans a hard to get a hold of, but most rotory shops/garages i contact usually are. it worries me sometimes when you dont hear back from a shop right away but sean definitely seems to deliver and honor his word

hope all is well sean!
sorry for butchering the car you sold me ahhah =)

amp 05-28-11 06:28 AM

if youre strapped for time... look for additional resources to assist you get over this hump...
most shops hesitate as it affects their bottomline... but dont realize that its essential for their growth or even just maintenance...

drmikegallant 05-28-11 06:30 PM

Sean has had my car at his shop for a long time now. We've had a few conversations, I've visited to see the progress, and he's demonstrated that he knows what he's doing and that he's having trouble getting parts. I don't know why it takes as long as it does for his vendors to supply him with parts or for him to figure out that vendors that don't supply parts are not vendors at all.

However, I'm willing to wait. I sincerely hope that he will do his best work on his most patient customers... and since good work takes time, planning, preparation, and in my case... a change of turbo mid-build.... I am willing to wait for what he thinks is best. I didn't think that it would take this long, but hey... I've owned this car for 12 years and it's been running for less than 2 of those years. I can wait if I have to.

Sean, after some of our conversations and some of the work I've seen and pictures I've seen... I trust you completely.. and I respect you and your fabrication skills. I don't care that it's taking a long time as long as it's done right.

But please, please, please communicate with your customers more. You haven't anything to loose by calling us all up and letting us know what's going on. We are trying to support you...

drmikegallant 05-28-11 07:21 PM

Guys, remember that life can throw us all curves from time to time.

Remember Sean is the guy that wrote this:

Hey everybody, i know this is an old thread, but I have ran out of options. Last heard from Sean in october, it now seems that the office phone is no longer in operation, and there seems to be no activity on the forums from Sean or his guys. I am freaking out, I am 3 years into this project and have alot of money in, feel like throwing up. Sean seems like a great guy, if anyone has any insight to help me out here I would appreciate it.

thewird 01-12-13 03:01 PM

I'm also waiting on a turbo from him.

thewird

Brekyrself 01-13-13 12:23 AM

They are still in business. I am lucky enough to be local and stopped by the other weak to order a single turbo kit

As usual they are backed up and being a small operation, hard to get back to everyone in a timely fashion.

thewird 01-13-13 12:57 AM

Next time your there tell him the Canadian needs his turbo. There's not even fabrication involved >_>. You try to support the rotary community but get ignored...

thewird

carolinacat 01-14-13 07:52 PM

brekyrself ... Ill pay you if you can get sean to ship me a down pipe he has had and keeps telling me he will ship for almost a year now.
pm me if you can help

silverTRD 01-14-13 08:34 PM

^are you serious?^ thats rediculius. im glad i bought my aspec kit complete used on the forum lol

thewird 01-14-13 08:37 PM

Sean finally got back to me. Looks like I might be getting my turbo soon. Woot. He seems really busy, been having problems with electricity and his dyno apparently.

thewird

Farkel 01-14-13 10:07 PM

Did Sean call you back?

I've been blowing up their phones like a maniac recently, but so far no response. My kit is close yet so far... a couple parts needs to be finalized and I obviously can't continue without them

rx7 SE 01-22-13 06:09 PM

I spoke with him today and yesterday. He's tied up with some Porsche projects and an FC build for about 4-5 weeks.

This is the number I've used (630)-825-0333.

rx7 SE 03-02-13 10:20 AM

Update: He hasn't responded to any of my 'update' emails since I sent him my money for a 6266 kit, smh. It's only been 5 weeks though so I'm sure I've got at least another season to wait based on other people's experiences. Oh well, as long as he follows through I won't fuss too much.

TwinCharged RX7 03-02-13 10:43 AM

You've gone 5 weeks without any type of response?

rx7 SE 03-02-13 10:59 AM

Close to two weeks, placed the order about 5 weeks ago. As long as I wasn't asking for 'any updates' I've gotten responses rather quickly. Racing season is right around the corner though so I'm sure his work has picked up a lot.

rx7 SE 03-02-13 09:32 PM

All is good here, he responded.

carolinacat 03-03-13 08:30 PM

he responded to what? i cant get up with him.

rx7 SE 03-03-13 10:11 PM

Through email. One of his technicians bailed out on him right in the middle of working on several jobs to work for another shop so Sean is left to pick up the slack. Thus, why he's falling behind on contacting people.

GoodfellaFD3S 03-03-13 11:06 PM

That is true, his main fabricator/welder Tony left him in a lurch. It's unfortunate because he welded my V-mount and turbo kit not too long ago and they came out very nice....

MazdaAspec 03-04-13 08:15 PM

I have been messaging someone from Apec tuning and believed it was Sean. He is one of a kind and has gained full respect from me. If you cant trust a hard man at work like him you simply cant trust anyone. Hard to find nice people like him these days willing to do things that are out of his way.

Farkel 03-07-13 06:32 PM

I just wanted to add in as well that Sean does come through. You have to be patient, but I guess that's just part of the game. He has been quite responsive over emails, so try that if you have not already.

thewird 03-07-13 09:36 PM

Just chiming in, I got all my stuff I ordered from A-spec. He's a good guy that just got caught up in some circumstances one after the other.

Sigh...has anyone heard from him recently? I'm getting anxious for my 6266 :/

Flyweight 04-25-13 01:47 PM

He is alive and well. My car is being worked on right now. Try emailing him.

socks 04-26-13 08:00 AM

I heard from him in the middle of last week that my 6266 setup was finished and ready for coating. Waiting for a response to a couple of questions, and him to let me know its ready for shipping so I can pay him.

Vicoor 04-26-13 04:09 PM

Any time you are waiting for something you want, time seems to drag by.

But once you get it the waiting doesn't seems as bad.

We too had a seemingly endless wait for a 6266 kit from A-Spec.

It did finally arrive and is very nice indeed.

Certainly worth waiting for.

rx7 SE 04-30-13 11:24 AM

So I'm on email 4 with no response in close to a month or more. Anyone who has heard from him, what method did you use? I'm disappointed that I even have to ask that question.

fidelity101 05-01-13 12:44 PM

Great products, long wait and mostly poor communication.

rx7 SE 05-01-13 01:49 PM
