OMG finally. i just came back on rx7club after a good couple months and i saw this post on the main page! finally, getting things ready for my new motor build and i see this... now i got to decide between FRP reinforced with Carbon Fiber or the Carbon Fiber w/ FRP Skeleton.. not sure if id want to paint the hood then or keep ithe carbon fiber look... is there any weight difference? also do you make a cover for the vents for those rainy days?

Email is the best way to get them. I am on a waiting list for the FRP reinforced so I don't think they are in stock yet.

I stopped by the shop and picked up my hood on Saturday (not sure if they're always open on weekends, but I coordinated with them since they were doing shop clean up) where I met Patrick and Santos. I got the FRP with CF reinforcement version and actually didn't take any pics, but Patrick took some so maybe he can post them up here. Fitment is spot on. I drove pretty quickly through L.A. freeways as well as the twisties in Angeles Forest for about 500 miles of weekend driving. No issues at all with flexing or anything. My OEM hood on the other hand always seemed to be a bit "flappy" at speed. The Shine Auto FEED hood was stiff and behaved the way I expect hoods to behave. These definitely aren't in stock as there is a wait list and these guys are definitely busy so at this point they are made to order. Patrick showed me around the shop and they are pumping out the goods as fast as they can. They have their products for a myriad of cars throughout the warehouse and I think I saw 2-3 other FD hoods in some stage of development. All hoods are test-fitted on Ken's own car so that's why fitment is so spot on.

also, I haven't had any issue with communicating with them. on occasion it goes to voicemail, but I try again later. Their office is separate than the working area so they may not hear the phone ring. With the amount of customers for all the made-to-order products they have there Ken has a pretty sharp memory. He remembers details of our conversations that I forgot about months ago so with that amount of attention to detail you can expect great customer service.

I honestly can't remember. I was on it last fall and was told 10-12 weeks I think, but since I am not co-located with the car and wanted to pick up in person I kept giving up my place in line. When I was certain I'd be back in L.A. this month I gave the guys 2.5 weeks heads up. So I'm not sure if that is the accurate wait time, or just the courtesy of making me next in line as I gave up my spot 3 times.

call them to find where you are in the waiting list. If they don't answer right away call back later. Their office is separated from their huge working area. I've been there twice one of which was to pick up my hood.

There's quite a bit of people in line for these hoods and the line is constantly being added to. I can say with confidence, this won't be "in-stock" for at least a year or two. We're only giving people ETAs that are emailing us or calling us to be put in line. There's a reason why this isn't even added to our website.

All of our orders for FRP reinforced with Carbon is complete. We made about 25 to 30 of them.

We're just now starting to produce carbon ones. We just posted the first one ordered in double-side carbon on our instagram @shineautoprojectusa . Check it out!

Is that latch strong enough to run without hood pins?

Yes. Just as strong as an OEM latch, unless you are going 200+ mph, then you might want to consider hood pins, just as you would with even a factory hood.

Our hood weight roughly 15-16 lbs. I believe the OE hood weighs 21-22lbs.
