Hey guys just wondering on 88 yr vehicles is the inspection just visual or does it get hooked up to the machine....cuz if my car has to get hooked to the machine...I already know she will FAIL....thanks for your help....

 

it all depends on what county you live in. If your county has emissions, then OBDII vehicles(95~96-UP) will get hooked up to a computer to read codes that the car's computer thinks are there (i.e. check engine light). Since your car is an 88, IF your county has emissions then there might be a visual inspection to see is you have a catalytic converter, and they will probably do a tailpipe sniff to check your output.... but it all depends on what your county does...

 

Just took my '91 Turbo in last month for it's inspection. They just do a safety inspection for anything older than 15 years in Wake county and it's $9:10.

 

I'm not 100% sure, but I think Guilford county just does a visual inspection. On your FC, they should just check to make sure that the air pump and cat is there, and check for exhaust leaks. I don't think any county around here actually uses a sniffer for non-OBD2 cars.
