Taking car to Pettit ...

I originally sent my car to Japtrix to get tuned and some of the lines/hoses reinstalled (water hard lines) .. and that ended up being 690 bucks since they had to remove and reinstall the turbo and change out some lines. Didn't even tune or anything else. Then they call and tell me its going to be $800 to fix the water leak on the rear plate on top of $150 to tune it.... uhhhh Not ragging on them for their service, they've actually been pretty good about timeliness and ingenuity, just the pricing threw me way off this time around.

So total cost would have been $1700 just to fix the leak, misc adjustments, and a tune. Kinda crazy? I spoke to Pettit and they said it should be much less then that, so driving the car two miles west and dropping it off over there. Will let you guys know the outcome. Will report back once I get my car back.

Since I don't know what you're actually having done (descriptions are kinda vague) I can't comment on how much any work would/should cost.

But all my experience with Cam has been nothing short of top notch. With such a legend/innovator/originator in the Rotary world that close, it's really a no brainer.

One of the only reasons I got back into an RX-7 was because of proximity to Pettit.

Pettit is pricey, but he rebuilt and ported my motor a few years ago with no problems to date. Cam knows his ****, but his final price is always more than his original quote. He will find some other **** wrong with your car, tell you its imperative to be fixed and all of a sudden your $400 bill is $1200.

Exactly what happened to me when I stopped by there to buy a 99 front lip after purchasing my FD 2 yrs ago.

I went there to spend $250 on a front lip and walked out spending $800 because of his advice...

gotta know your **** when you take it to Cam. Just have to be concrete on what work you want done and get it in a quote in writing.

The Petitt experience is no different tha trying to purchase a washer and dryer from Brandsmart.

Damn, so you guys suggest taking the car there after i'm done installing my single turbo setup to get it tuned? lol...

I don't mind paying, but i only want somone that knows their stuff about tuning rotaries to touch my car.

It seems like they are a top notch shop, just not sure about their tuning...

Sounds about right. Cam knows his **** and thre are not many out there w/ a trained eye like his to find little things wrong w/ these cars. 100% of fd's on the road have something minor wrong w/ them. Trust me. These cars are at least 15 years old. G

Well said Garrett...... spending some cash up front can save you lots more down the road, not to mention being broken down on the side of the road

Not entirely true around here....
How many rotary mechanics in South Florida have taken customers money and ran?
Petitts a solid establishment and hes not going anywhere, but he will sell you what he wants to sell you, not what you need......... and if you are single turbo, you're SOL!

As mentioned, Cam is a straight up business man. He's gonna make you spend money that you don't want to spend but in the back of your mind, you know he's right and you do it anyway.

I've done a couple motors through him so far. I will only take my cars to him. While my other FD buddies are pissing around trying to find a cheaper way out of the typical FD repairs, I'm enjoying driving my perfectly solid FD. It's worth a little more $ to know it's right and having the right guy do the work.

MATT GOLD. Back in a FD apparently. Good for you, Bro. We'll have to meet up at an event or something and catch up. It's been a long time.

I agree... They are def. the best around anywhere for the twin turbo set-up. The research and testing w/ the set-up has been tried by them. They are getting better in the single realm. G

Well said Andrew - my thoughts exactly and thanks for the welcome (back)!

So far so good - I'll have to make it up to Brevard once the weather cools down.

I just got my car back from Cam a month ago.. and what started off as $1100 at the most supposedly..... ended up $2700 and pretty much all my tax return money.

The car is old (17yrs).. Worth it? Yes. In Cam I trust.

Just got back from Pettit last night, cars still there. Let me just say that Cam knows his ****. Got a full tour of the shop, and some of the stuff he showed me was down right impressive. I was taken back at just how hard he worked to get where he is and some of his plans for future expansion. Cam J.r gave me a ride in his 10th AE and on a stock turbo at 8psi it felt like it could run low 13’s. Very impressive.

I was originally just going to part the car out, but something wicked is brewing 
