Hey Everyone, I wanted to take this chance to see if there is any interest in a rotary shop in the charleston area. Probably nothing to fancy. I've been thinking about starting something up and Rotaries are my passion although I can work on any import. I would probably focus on wiring for 20 B's and rebuilds at first. Also Let me know when everyone decides to meet up. I'll have to make an apperance, although I've got a project in the works , so I couldn't drive my 7.

I could use the money from rebuilding a couple motors over the summer, too. Student life = very limited income, and I have all these special tools just sitting here waiting on me to use them...

Reese says "if you need someone to come out and install haltechs, he'd be interested." Sorry I type it for him since we are about to run an errand

If we *must* meet at KMart, let's actually park over by the Texas Roadhouse so we're not as visible.
nah dude its tradition, we have always met up there for 7 meets and havent had any problems. it will be alright, but we can park back toward the road house, plenty of parking lot

I will point you to:

SECTION 56-5-1590. Unlawful to race or assist in racing on public roads. [SC ST SEC 56-5-1590]

It shall be unlawful to engage in a motor vehicle race or contest for speed on any public road, street or highway in this State or to aid, abet or assist in any manner whatsoever in any such race or contest. Altering, changing, tampering with or "souping up" a motor vehicle for the purpose of racing or speeding on any public road, street or highway in this State shall be considered as aiding, abetting or assisting for the purposes of §§ 56-5-1590 to 56-5-1620.
(emphasis added by me)

and

SECTION 56-5-1620. Penalties for racing; revocation or suspension of drivers' licenses and registrations.[SC ST SEC 56-5-1620]

Any person violating the provisions of §§ 56-5-1590 to 56-5-1620 by driving a motor vehicle shall, upon conviction, be fined not less than two hundred dollars nor more than six hundred dollars or imprisoned for not less than two months nor more than six months, or both, in the discretion of the trial judge. In addition to such penalty the driver of any vehicle who violates the provisions of §§ 56-5-1590 to 56-5-1620 shall upon conviction, entry of a plea of guilty or forfeiture of bail have his driver's license revoked for a period of one year. Any person violating the provisions of §§ 56-5-1590 to 56-5-1620 by acquiescing in or permitting the driving of his car shall, upon conviction, be fined not to exceed one hundred dollars or imprisoned for a period not to exceed thirty days, or both, in the discretion of the court and, in addition thereto, shall have his driver's license and the registration of his vehicle suspended for a period of three months.
By careful reading, you will see that modifying your car for speed (which is given to the officer's discretion) puts you in violation of 1590, with the penalties above, even if you never exceed the speed limit.

I point this out because all the local LE agencies have gotten hungry, and they're poring over the rulebooks for revenue generators.

I was wrong on the vehicle confiscation - that was another state whose legal statutes I was researching.

so waht is your point? we hide our cars in fear of the popo and never come to meets?

if they try to pull that on me i will show them my scca/nasa licenses and say this is why my car is souped up, not for street

^amen
The way I see it is we are having a car meet. If the popo has a problem. The only possible problem I see is loitering. Then we just move on.
Is seems to me the whole "modifying your car for speed (which is given to the officer's discretion)" is bs. Anyone can argue that fact given that the "officer" can only look at the outside appearance of a vehicle. And if the officer wants to find out more request a warrant.
But I'm not sure of the whole "search vehicle" status, Ive always felt that is something that they shouldn't be allowed to just do.

Thanks for the interest guys. Email me at driftergtr@gmail.com and we can discuss the shop idea more. I want to make sure I have everything needed to meet the need as well as provide a quality service and product. Usually I build engines for friends or do wiring harness repairs and re-constructions as well. But, since there is a huge lack of community support ( as far as a shop ) in the area I figured I should look into taking my hobby/ passion and stepping things up a bit. Don't get me wrong Show Zone is good at what they do, but when it comes to rotaries their skill set is woefully lacking. Mush respect to Sk8 and his crew though.

Mike, that sounds an awful lot like the BS charge I got hit with a few years back. That wouldn't be acquiescence to racing, would it? I'm fine with meeting wherever, as I'm coming from out of town. Just give me an address and i'll be there

so what is the final details on the meet????? are we just gonna meet at K-Mart at 12 or is there some other plan now????

also ShowZone can go DIAF as we say here at the club haha. they screwed up my paint and have refused to fix it properly and on top of that they added about 600$ to the final cost that we had already worked out. They broke my driver side mirror and did not tell me. i had to show it to them and they made me get proof it wasn't broken before(which i had) then they only fixed it when i bought a mirror and brought it to them. as far as i'm concerned a little competition would be a good thing.
end of rant.

No experience with Show Zone, but I've heard mixed things. I don't go to shops generally, but that's more a $ issue than a preference. My hobby is *driving* cars, not *fixing* them. It's just when no one else can fix the damn thing...

Slevin_FD: I hear ya man. I used to do mil-spec aircraft-style harnesses to rework racecars and the like. No one wants to pay for that quality work... I'd charge more per hour for wiring work than for lawyering work. After 14 years in the aerospace biz, I just paid off all the specific tools maybe 4-5 years ago.

Reese: yeah, sounds like you got picked to make a donation to the highway fund within the outer reaches of that statute. See guys? I ain't making this **** up. Researching it is more or less my job now. If you don't believe me, then just wait, you'll be wanting someone like me defending your *** in court in a year or so.

All: Howabout we meet at the Texas Roadhouse, hang until we're sure everyone is there, and then head down to, say, Sesame? I'd be happy to lead, it's kinda hard to get to despite what the map shows.

Downtown will be crazy - last weekend of Spoleto. Beach might be nuts too, but there's always the county park or JI.

I'd host at my place but springing that on my wife last minute isn't healthy. 'Sides, Reese would steal some of my shiat.

See everyone at noon. Buddha willing, I'll be in the RX8. Otherwise, the Jeep or what's left of it.

We plan to hit town a bit before noon. Jamin, I'll call you when we're close to Chas.

Toby, are you already there, or when are you leaving Cola? Maybe people from here can caravan. Hit me back to let me know!

will do. Oh, I may take care of a small project tomorrow. Is there a place nearby that I can get brass or other metal T fittings? I also need to get vac line. I want to redo my wastegate lines. I got the BOV working fine but my spool is way slower than it should be. I'm hoping that redoing the lines might help.

Damn it I'm stuck at work until 3 . If anyone gets on here and you guys are still hanging out someone call me and hopefully I can get out there. 843-478-9898

All the harnesses I've done I use mil-spec connectors. I was thinking maybe 5-600 bucks for a new harness. and maybe 300 for a repair depending on how messed up it is.

Hey Guys. I had a great time even though I wasn't there very long. Next time we all meet up hopefully I'll at least have this engine I'm working on finished. Next major purchase is going to be an FD chassis. If anyone wants to hang out though you let me know. I'm right here in Goose Creek most of the time.
