JKM, let me know if you are going to be out there and I will definitely show up.
Speaking of Deals Gap, you ever go to Killboy.com ? They post photos they take every week on the gap and they are great. Only problem is there dosen't ever seem to be any RXs up there.

tarheelquality or whoever is interested, if you want another FB, or possibly an FC, I know of a couple for sale here in Fayetteville, AND I GOT PICS! They're on the same lot.
The FB:
It only runs well when the choke is on, other than that it dies out. They want $1500, but Mazda Mike (another guy that showed up there, they call him that cause he builds Mazdas almost exclusively) says he'd only give $800 for it, haha. The body and paint are in pretty good condition, and except for a few console pieces missing, the inside looks pretty good too.
The FC:
It won't start, they think the timing is off. Mazda Mike said he has a 13B for it for $250, and they want $400 for the car, but my friend might be getting that one. I'll let you all know what happens.

^Oh, and while I was there another guy showed up in a silver FD. He's in the Army and has been here for 3 years but he's about to graduate recruiter school and move back down to Miami next month, DAMMIT. Turns out, he used to own that TII that my buddy and I were about to buy, but the guy in my shop got it. If anyone wants the story I'll tell all at the next meet. I'll post the car show pics in a few but I gotta shower right now, I'm livin la vida stinky!

Some pics from the HIN trip. I'm not sure what happened to the white car. I think it's a Toyota, but I can't tell for sure cause the emblem's missing, Heh-heh. Ok, bad joke. The blue Prelude was out in the parking lot too, and if not for the nick in the front bumper it would have killed half the pieces of crap in the back corner in the room of local cars. Nick and Keri, you know what I'm talking about, haha. And then some pics of our cars on the top of the parking structure of The Blake.

The show was a bit disappointing from a rotorhead's perspective. The only FD there was an LS1 and the guys with RX-8s seemed to only be into sound systems. But here they are anyway.

This supercharger on this Mustang was the first of it's kind. It sits lower...that's about all the owner told me, haha. It made 552hp at 12psi, but I'm not sure if the 4 bottles in the trunk were helping with that.

Just to let everyone know...every Honda Civic owner with an extra 55 bucks laying around entered the local part of the show! Like Eric said the Camry would have killed!

Eric, the white car has, what's called a NASCAR cold air intake.

Help! VDI Manifold Removal and other questions
I am replacing the oil injector lines this weekend and have run into a slight problem. I have everything on top of the rotor housings removed down to the VDI manifold. I thought my biggest problem was gonna be reconnecting all the hoses and lines but I cannot get the VDI to budge after removing the 5 nuts and bolts on the passenger side and the two bolts on the drivers side of the manifold. The engine was rebuilt about 2.5 years ago so the manifold has been removed fairly recently.
I've checked the Haynes Manual and can't see anything else that would be holding it down. I've banged on the manifold a few times with a rubber mallet to encourage it and it still won't move at all. I haven't broken any bolts or lines, well I did snap off one short vacuum line, up to this point but now the last part between me and the oil injectors is giving me problems. I have a pry bar but can't find any place to rest it to attempt to pry the manifold up and break the seal. Anyone got any ideas on what I need to check or is there something I have missed that is holding the VDI in place?

Just a quick question...are we gonna discuss what kind of events we plan on attending and putting on this summer? I know myself and Keri planned on going to the Zoo this year and maybe the Aquarium. I'm sure there are a few car shows in the area that would be cool to go to. Also, I definately want to see if we could get a Deal's Gap trip planned for the RRDI. Just some thoughts. Hopefully we get a good turn out at the next drive-in so, we can get a lot of input.

And now for the rest of the story...

He helped develope the infield track there and we were able to get the keys to the place so to speak a couple of times. We were running a Formula Ford, an old GT car (borrowed from Amos Johnson so we could test it for Road Atlanta) and an AMC Gremlin back in those days. We even took Steve's '67 Caddy for a spin around the track one time, talk about a boat ride. Man I had forgotten how banked those turns were. You can barely walk up them.
In the interest of accuracy in reporting...
The track Steve designed is the infield course at Rockingham, which was actually built in '78, and yes he had his own set of keys and got to use the whole facility whenever it wasn't being used for anything else, which back then was only a couple weekends a year and when Buck Baker was having a round track school... boy did a bunch of folks have some really great times over some of those long weekends we spent down there...
No stewards, no rules, and believe it or not, NO harm done... any car ya brung you could run... go til ya ran outta gas if you wanted to... we'd run the oval, the road course, forwards or backwards, at night, match races with four occupants in each car (the chicks in the back seat shifting side to side to help ballast for the turns, the whole while laughing our ***** off so loud the folks in the car next to us could hear it over the tires squealing)... ;)
The 'Caddy' was actually a '68 Lincoln Continetal w/ suicide doors, in dark charcoal, w/ dark vinyl roof and BLACKED OUT windows... the 'Raleigh Rac'n Mafia Mobile'...
My fondest memory of the Mafia Mobile was doing HOT laps around the oval 2am one morning w/ Jay Adams while sh*tfaced, listening to 'Hot Rod Lincoln' blaring full blast on the tape deck...
Steve wasn't officially a Team Highball member, but his team / operation was very tight with Amos, Bunny, Whitt, Sr., and the whole bunch... Amos was an especially good friend, helping out with advice and parts over the years, and partnered in a couple efforts, including building the first ever IMSA All American GT car to hit the track... for well under $5000, it was a Vega body with a 350 Chevy small block, home brewed wild **** suspension and wide hand-made aluminum fender flares... it qualified 19th out of 65+ cars for the 24 Hours of Daytona in '75, only 0.1 sec. off of Milt Mentor's time in a NART Ferrari... not too shabby... unfortunately the 'bullet-proof' IROC type Schaefer clutch inexplicably failed heading out for the last practice the night before the 24 Hours, and Amos, Steve and Dennis ended up running Amos's RS Gremlin instead, finishing 17th overall (highest American car finish)... that was the year John Greenwood had his certified 231 mph top end Corvette there on the pole... although the Vegrant was 10 sec. off his pole time, we were told by somebody keeping track that it was only 1 sec. off his infield interval times, which was amazing to me...
And that's the way it was... back in the ol corp rac'n days...

Man I would love to see Steve again. My best friend Mike Leonard turned me on to Steve. We use to have such a blast hanging out at the shop or at Steve's little "garage" off Leesville Road. There was also another guy who worked with Steve during that time, I can't think of his name to save my life but I can see his face plain as day... damn getting old sucks. Anyway, it's funny how things come around again sometimes. Now here I am back into cars and people and stuff start popping up! Man I'm looking forward to seeing/meeting you guys and anyone else who shows up from the past this weekend!
PM me with an eddress and I'll see if I can hook you up with him... Steve that is...

This goes to anyone: Are the plans on the RRDI site pretty much the only plans for this summer? I'll be home on leave during the VIR Gold Cup, and sometime this summer I'm probably gonna have my car torn down for maybe a couple weeks to do suspension. And then possibly again later this year for everything but paint and interior if I can get the money together. But I'll try to make it to as much as possible.
