Question Rotary Repair in Central Fla?

hey guys, ive got an 87 rx-7 (not a turbo) that I rebuilt before I got to this Godforsaken place, I totally rebuilt it, tore everything apart, and replaced just about everything I could,. (remembering how crappy it was trying to get that pilot bearing out, and how the Mazda dealership guys laughed when I went in there looking for help) spent like 1400 all together, car and everything. SO when I was home on leave, I ran it, and got rid of that rusting stock exhaust. (it shoots flames now) ..got it home only to find coolant starting to flow out of the left side of the motor. didn’t really have the time or desire to check it out, as I only had two weeks.

I want to get it all checked out and timed right, need someone to go over it and make sure everything is hooked up right. I only got to drive it a few times b4 I left, and had to mess with the timing allot to get it to start without push starting. I lined up the mark on the.. damn, I cant remember what its called, the rod with the gear at the end that makes the plugs fire.. ha.. the mark on that with the mark on whatever else I had to, its been like 2 years since ive done it, so I apologize. anyway, I had to turn it way out of wack to wear I couldn’t even put the screw in to hold it in place, and I had the plugs wired right.

anyway, id like to get it all checked out by someone who knows what they are doing. My car is in Ocala fla, anyone know any good mechanics the central fla area, Id love to be able to drive her right when I get home, in like 2 months. I know one guy, runs GT welding, named Carlos, but he’s mostly into upgrading, and I just want it to run like its supposed to....4 now... thanks in advance

Well if you spent 1400 last time
and your willing to spend that again

Why not get a S4 turbo motor
swap the flywheel for you NA flywheel/clutch
and the engine will bolt right up the NA tranny

ECU and harness of ebay
and your good to go

You can also come to Orlando
and see my friend Jose from Fuego Racing
if you rather just rebuild the motor

I'm gonna have to agree with Roger here too. If you did the work yourself you can save a lot of money by bying a used motor and swaping it out. If you want to rebuild it then go and see Jose at Fuego Racing. He has helped out a lot of members on here and does good work. Hope this helps!

How long does it usually take him to rebuild an engine? Wait, isn't he the one that charges like $1700, for a rebuild?

I don't know what exactly he charges but I know he's pretty inexpensive and does good work. I would pm Josh Green, since he recently rebuild his engine. Prices on 3rd gens are different so I can't give you a quote for a 2nd gen.

i got my TII motor rebuilt there for like 860 for parts (I didnt need housings or rotors), 650 labor, 300 for porting and it only took about a week to do it, might be longer depending on how busy he is. I would get a rebuild there again if I ever have to.

Wait, but did you deliver the car, or did you take the engine out of the car first and give it to him? I've talked to some of the shops on the phone and they charge between 1500 - 1700, with the engine out. I'm mostly looking for a basic rebuild. I would get it streetported, but that idea got shot down when i told another rotary friend that. His response....."You have an automatic. Now if it was a standard, it would be okay." Anyways, but just a standard rebuild is all I'm looking for. A week to finish a rebuild is great.

I'm pretty sure he took the car to him and let Jose do all the work.

Hey I'm just making sure. btw, fc3sfreek, Ortiz and CFT, are right next to eachother, so if you don't like the price from one, then you can always walk to the other and see what they charge. I can find out for you though, since I'm friend with a TII driver who's cool with them, and I think works with them.

Hey I don't see your name on the list to attend the meet coming up this Saturday. Are you going to be in town for it? Are you planning on coming?! Here's the thread. So far we got close to 80 cars attending. That's about 60 RX-7s, and about another 20 RX-8s. I know we'll have other makes that will turn up too.
