Raleigh guys chime in!

hey guys whats up. I'm gonna be moving up to the Raleigh/Durham area relatively soon (near Oxford to be more precise). I know that my FC wont have to have an emissions test, but I do know they will do a regular inspection.

What all do they check on this inspection?

Also, Tinted windows....My windows are wayyy more than the 32% barrier...anyone know any shady shops that would let this slide?

They check safety stuff and that's it, they're suppose to do a visual of emission stuff but they wouldn't know what they were looking at or for in the first place at most places on a RX-7. I doubt your windows will be a problem.

I just got my first safety inspection done this past November. Had no problems. They opened the hood and checked all my running lights and seat belts. I think it costs $10 or less for the safety inspection.

I live between Wake Forest and Oxford. Let me know when you're settled and I'll show you some curvy back roads east of you that offer some great driving. We might just schedule a drive some Saturday before a Drive-In if the weather permits and you can meet some of our members.

So they didnt check anything else on the safety inspection? What about the emissions, visual? If I have my cats removed, they gonna check for that?

The place I went in Wake Forest didn't lift it. I keep the car clean and shiny and they didn't look too close. He asked me some questions about engine mods and what other things had been done to the car but really didn't check under the car at all. I got the feeling that since the garage is getting less than $10 for the safety inspection they aren't gonna spend a lot of time on it.

Both of my cars they just checked the safety stuff, didn't bother to even look under the car.
They did peek under the hood on the Turbo but they do it all the time just so they can google at the engine and ask questions. I take it to the same place all the time for oil changes so the owner is use to seeing the car but everyone else wants to ask 20 questions.

at least I can put my own motor in

Anyways though, back on topic. I was looking at the book on the inspections and it said they cover all this crap like steering and treadwear, etc. wasn't sure what all they checked. My girlfriends parents said the shop he went to nailed him on the tinted windows haha, I guess its place specific.

Can't find the address or phone number here at work but the inspection station is in Wake Forest off of US1-A near the middle school and the entrance to the Heritage Development. It will be on the right as you come in to Wake Forest from the south exit off of Capital Blvd.
